Jennifer Tilly compares joining 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' to 'working with Martin Scorsese'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Tilly has drawn a fascinating comparison between joining 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' and working with the legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese.
At 65, Tilly is stepping into the spotlight as a "friend of" housewife Sutton Stracke on Season 14 of the hit Bravo reality show, following her previous guest appearances. On May 22, Bravo officially announced that the 'Chucky' star will be a part of the show.
Jennifer Tilly says working on 'RHOBH' is equivalent to working with Martin Scorsese
As a self-proclaimed "Housewives superfan," Jennifer Tilly shared with Vulture that her experience on the show surpassed even the thrill of meeting Elizabeth Taylor.
The actress said, "To me, it’s like working with Martin Scorsese. My boyfriend always says if he got $40 million, he wants to go into space and experience zero gravity. To me, being on Housewives is experiencing zero gravity. I was more excited to meet Kyle Richards and Erika Jayne and the other ladies than I was when I met Elizabeth Taylor."
She added, "They’ve been asking me if I want to be on the show, and I’ve always said ‘No. No.’ This year, I sort of thought, I just want to do everything different. I’m trying to take on challenges."
'RHOBH' filming locations surprised Jennifer Tilly
Jennifer Tilly initially expected to see the luxurious aspects of Beverly Hills, such as shopping on Rodeo Drive, but noted that much of the filming occurs in the Valley where permits are easier to obtain, according to People.
She said, "I thought that I was going to see a lot of people shopping on Rodeo Drive, but a lot of the filming that they do is in the Valley, in places where it’s easier to get permits."
"So it’s not like you’re at the fanciest places in Beverly Hills, arguing. They’re usually arguing at some kind of non–Beverly Hills place because the really fancy, elite places don’t want Housewives screaming at each other in their dining room," added the 'Sallywood' star.
Tilly described the filming experience as "the most challenging thing I’ve ever done," noting that it was unscripted and chaotic, as per The Independent.
She compared the franchise's dramatic confrontations to a sporting event, highlighting the intensity of the arguments and dramatic scenes.
"In real life, if you’re at a restaurant and people at the table are screaming at each other, you’re mortified like, 'Oh my God. I can’t believe I’m with these uncouth people.' But when I am sitting at a table with Housewives, I feel like I have a front-row seat at the Super Bowl," noted the actress.
Tilly added, "I like all the Housewives. I appreciate what they do. I’m just going to say it’s really challenging. It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever done, but I’m really happy I’m doing it, and I think it’s such an interesting kind of sharp left turn for my career."
