Joe Alwyn says he 'trusts' Taylor Swift's pal Emma Stone as he discusses filming intimate scenes with her
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actor Joe Alwyn recently shared his insights into filming intimate scenes with co-star Emma Stone for their newly released movie ‘Kinds of Kindness', which is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Alwyn emphasized the importance of trust and familiarity when filming sensitive scenes, particularly highlighting his previous collaborations with Lanthimos and Stone.

Talking about filming such scenes, Joe Alwyn told the outlet, "In Yorgos’ films, characters often go to uncomfortable places and do uncomfortable things.”
I certainly felt that with that darker scene, the tone on set doesn't massively change,” Alwyn continued, before adding, “It doesn't feel like you're in a dark environment. It's all pretty light: People are friendly, people are joking.”
Reflecting on working with the director and Stone in their 2018 movie ‘The Favourite’, Alwyn reportedly expressed his confidence in them. "Having done those scenes with Yorgos as the director, I trust him and Emma,” he said.
“That familiarity and trust is a huge part of it. If you are there with people you trust and admire and love, then it’s a lot easier,” the actor added,
‘Kinds of Kindness’ weaves together multiple storylines, with Alwyn and Stone portraying a separated couple navigating the challenges of co-parenting their daughter in the film’s final act.
Alwyn discussed the film’s exploration of uncomfortable themes, acknowledging that while the narrative delves into dark areas, the atmosphere on set remained positive and supportive.
“In Yorgos’ films, characters often go to uncomfortable places and do uncomfortable things,” Alwyn remarked. He appreciated the depth of the film’s narrative, noting how it challenged him and his co-stars to immerse themselves in their characters' complex motivations fully.
Alwyn also highlighted the crucial role of intimacy coordinators on set, likening their work to choreography. “It almost feels like you’re doing a dance or a fight,” he explained. “But having been on some projects with intimacy coordinators and some without them, ultimately, I think it’s about trusting the people you’re working with.”
Kinds of Kindness’ marks another collaboration between Stone and Lanthimos after ‘Poor Things', where Stone’s performance earned her a second Academy Award earlier this year.
Joe Alwyn gushes over Emma Stone at ‘Kinds of Kindness’ premiere
Joe Alwyn recently expressed his deep appreciation for his co-star and offscreen friend Emma Stone at the premiere of their new movie titled 'Kinds of Kindness'.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, June 20, Alwyn responded warmly to comments Stone had made about him in a press release for the film which was shared in May.
"Well, I would say (that) back, yeah," Alwyn said after hearing that Stone described him in the press release as "one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet."
He added, "I'm so lucky to be close to her, she's just the best. She's obviously wildly talented and she's just the best."
However, Entertainment Tonight noted that Stone made the remarks about Alwyn in the production notes for the movie in 2022, long before the actor broke up with the actress' close friend Taylor Swift in April 2023 after 6 years of dating.
Alwyn and Stone previously collaborated on the 2018 film 'The Favourite', directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, who also helmed 'Kinds of Kindness'.
'Kinds of Kindness' features an ensemble cast, including Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, Margaret Qualley, Mamoudou Athie, and Hong Chau. The film, set in New Orleans, comprises three individual stories over its two-hour, 45-minute runtime.
In the final act, Stone and Alwyn portray a separated couple co-parenting their daughter, played by Merah Benoit. Alwyn also appears in other segments of the film as a collectibles appraiser and a car passenger during a traffic stop.
"It's like a little theater troop. Everybody changes part in each story, and when you're with people you trust and you respect and you love, it makes it a whole lot easier," Alwyn told ET, reflecting on the collaborative nature of the project. "It's a lot of fun."
Joe Alwyn on breakup with Taylor Swift
Joe Alwyn's appearance at the premiere came shortly after he addressed his 2023 breakup with Taylor Swift in an interview with The Sunday Times Style.
“I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years," he said.
Joe Alwyn is widely recognized for his six-year relationship with Taylor Swift. Interestingly, Swift has been friends with Emma Stone since their teenage years.
