PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: During a recent radio interview with a popular Philadelphia station, President Joe Biden made a notable slip of the tongue - leading to widespread mockery.

As he spoke, Biden seemed to mix up his identity with that of Vice President Kamala Harris, leading to a confusing statement.

Joe Biden's flub

In the interview, Biden said, "By the way, I'm proud to be, as I said, the first vice president, first Black woman... to serve with a Black president. Proud to be involved with the first Black woman on the Supreme Court. There's so much that we can do because look... we're the United States of America."

The statement was intended to highlight the notable appointments and achievements during his administration, including Kamala Harris as the first Black female vice president and Ketanji Brown-Jackson as the first Black female Supreme Court justice.

However, his wording led to a muddled message, suggesting he was referring to himself as a Black woman.

The interview occurred during Biden's first post-debate media engagements with Black radio hosts in Milwaukee and Philadelphia. The New York Times and other prominent media outlets quickly picked up on the gaffe, generating significant discussion in both political and public spheres.

Biden addressed his recent debate performance during the interview, acknowledging, "I had a bad debate. But 90 minutes on stage doesn't erase what I've done for three and a half years."

His interview with Andrea Lawful-Sanders on WURD was brief, lasting under 15 minutes, with questions focused on his record with black Americans following the initial query about the debate.

Biden's campaign team was quick to defend the president. Anmar Moussa, a spokesman, stated, "It was clear what President Biden meant when he was talking about his historic record, including a record number of appointments to the federal bench. This is not news and the media has passed the point of absurdity here."

Despite the defense, it did not stop Biden's critics on social media from mocking him.

"Biden should run as an Independent, since he's now a strong, Black, independent woman that don't need no man," one quipped on X.

"Dude’s brain is mush. They lied to everyone for 4 years and now they can’t… dregs of society, all of them," another chimed in.

"He can no longer make even a five-minute appearance in public without showing how far gone he is," someone else offered.

"Biden digging his hole deeper by the day," a comment read.

"His efforts to try to prove how together he is, is only proving how gone he really is. They need to put him back in the basement, so he can catch up on his rest," another wrote.

Handling aging concerns

Biden's team has been strategically managing his public appearances to minimize the impact of any potential signs of aging. This includes limiting unscripted events, using teleprompters, and reducing his engagement with the press compared to previous presidents.

However, these efforts have not entirely quelled concerns. Observers note that Biden's speech clarity and ability to maintain his train of thought have declined with age, as evidenced by his recent gaffes.

In response to increasing concerns, Biden has reassured Democratic governors about his health and political viability in private meetings, sharing details of a recent checkup that showed he was in good health. This came amid scrutiny following his debate performance against Donald Trump in Atlanta, where his capabilities were questioned.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre faced tough questions about Biden's health evaluations in a press briefing. She claimed that Biden has undergone medical examinations, the results of which have been made public, and reassured that he will continue to actively campaign across the country.

"This is why we’re going to go out there and continue to go out there and do interviews and talk to the American people. At the end of the day … the American people will see for themselves," she said, adding that Biden "has worked incredibly hard for the American people" and remains "committed" to his role as a leader, CNN reported.
