LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Joe Keery joked about growing celebrity lookalike contests.
The 'Stranger Things' star, 32, appeared on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' on Tuesday, January 28, and found himself subject to one such contest on the show.
Joe Keery jokes about finishing at the third place, says 'I'm happy for them'
During the segment, host Jimmy Fallon, 50, declared the winners of the contest.
"These guys came in a tie, Troy and Max. Congratulations," he said. While showing a photo of the winners, Fallon asked Keery how it felt to be part of the competition.
"I'm happy for them. I was third," Keery quipped. Fallon playfully responded, "Well, you tried," before joking, "Yeah, but you don't quite look like you, so that's a bummer."
Keery continued the joke by mentioning that he did receive something for his placement in the contest. "I got a gift card. Like a $5 gift card to an Arby's or something," Keery said.
Meanwhile, Fallon noted that the winners, Troy and Max, got the chance to appear on 'The Tonight Show.' "That’s kind of a good prize!" Fallon added.
Timothee Chalamet's lookalike contest takes off the trend
The lookalike contest trend began in October 2024 when YouTube creator Anthony Po, known online as AnthPo, posted 100 flyers around New York City inviting anyone who resembled Timothee Chalamet to compete in a contest at Washington Square Park.

The event drew a massive crowd and even the actor himself made a surprise appearance.
Since then, the trend has taken off. In November, Paul Mescal lookalikes took out in Dublin.
In Brooklyn, Zayn Malik's doppelganger Shiv Patel won a free tattoo from artist Hel Hart after winning a similar contest on November 17, People noted.

Glen Powell surprises his lookalike contest winner with a movie cameo offer
Glen Powell also took part in the craze. Though he couldn’t attend his own lookalike contest in Austin, Texas, his mother, Cyndy Powell, served as a judge.
Powell later made a virtual cameo, offering a unique prize to the winner.
"In all seriousness, I have assembled you here today for an important mission. I want to pull off a heist, and we don’t need masks because we all have the same face. It’s the perfect crime! They can’t get all of us because we are one: a criminal Glenterprise," Powell said in his video message, reported People.
