NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: John Mulaney's darkly comedic remark during the opening monologue at the 'SNL 50: The Anniversary Special' has sparked speculations among viewers.

Standing beside comedy icon Steve Martin, Mulaney highlighted that 894 people have hosted the show over its five-decade run, before adding, “And it amazes me that only two of them have committed murder.”

John Mulaney's joke was met with laughter from Steve Martin and the star-studded audience, but it quickly sparked a flurry of social media speculation.

Fans were quick to point fingers at OJ Simpson and Robert Blake.

One user on X noted, "Simpson & Blake are who I thought of immediately." Another wrote, "John Mulaney trying not to mention OJ simpson by name in this monologue cameo."



 

 



 

Simpson, the former NFL star who hosted 'SNL' in 1978, was famously tried for the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

Though acquitted in criminal court, he was found liable in a civil trial and ordered to pay millions. Simpson died in 2024 after battling cancer.

Robert Blake, known for his role in 'Baretta,' hosted 'SNL' in 1982 and was accused of murdering his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, in 2001.

Although acquitted in 2005, he was found liable in a civil lawsuit. Blake died in 2023 at the age of 89.

Controversial mentions of Alec Baldwin and Robert Wagner

Some fans speculated that John Mulaney could have also been referring to Alec Baldwin, who hosted the show 17 times.

"Thought it was an Alec Baldwin joke," an individual opined. Another penned, "Who were the 2 hosts he was referring to? Most likely the answer is OJ Simpson and Robert Blake, but possibly Alec Baldwin." One wrote, "Did we forget about Alec Baldwin?" Someone speculated, "Robert Blake, OJ, Alec Baldwin, Robert Wagner."



 



 



 



 

Baldwin faced involuntary manslaughter charges after the tragic 2021 shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of 'Rust.'

Although the charges were eventually dismissed in 2024, the incident remains a significant part of his legacy.



 

Robert Wagner, who hosted in 1989, was never charged but has long been linked to the mysterious death of his wife, actress Natalie Wood, in 1981, according to the New York Post.
