MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: After stepping down from 'The ReidOut' earlier this year, Joy Reid has unveiled her next move, and it’s clear she’s far from done with politics, The Mirror reported.

Just two months after her final broadcast, the former MSNBC host took to Instagram to announce her partnership with State of the People, a political movement group, and her plans for a 10-city tour across the country.

Joy Reid’s new career begins as primetime run ends

Joy Reid made an exciting announcement via Instagram, her new partnership with political movement group State of the People. Clearly, she has not left politics behind.

She captioned her post with: “Ten cities… one mission … Who’s coming??? Tag your city in the comments and get more details at http://stateoftheppl.com.”

The State of the People Tour is a nationwide call to action; a movement to rally, restore, and reimagine what’s possible for Black communities across the US. "It’s not just an event, it’s a people-powered campaign rooted in service, solidarity, and strategic action," the website states.

Reid, 56, was a primetime fixture on MSNBC since 2020, anchoring 'The ReidOut', a show known for tackling urgent political issues and interviewing key political and cultural figures.

It aired at 7 PM ET and quickly became a respected voice in the network's evening lineup.

Despite garnering several awards, including a recent 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News Series, the show was unexpectedly axed.

When rumors began swirling in February about her departure, both Reid and the network's new president, Rebecca Kulter, confirmed the news shortly after.

Kulter shared in a memo: "Joy Reid is leaving the network and we thank her for her countless contributions over the years. Her work has been recognized with several esteemed honors, including most recently, the 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News Series."

Reid echoed those sentiments in her farewell note posted online, filled with grace and gratitude.

She said, "I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets.

So very proud of The ReidOut @joy.msnbc.com team, who are truly family, and all of our supporters & friends. See you tomorrow night at 7, one more time."

During the February 23 session, she revealed that the following Monday would be her last broadcast.

Her emotions were raw and honest as she reflected on what the show meant to her and the impact it had.

“My show had value,” she stated.

“Whether it was the Black Lives Matter issues ... (or) talking about Gaza and the fact that we as the American people have ... a right to object to little babies being bombed ... I am not sorry that I stood up for those things," she said.

Her show's final episode aired on February 25.

As per The Mirror, 'The ReidOut' was cancelled after she held a clandestine meeting with other anchors like Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O'Donnell, and Nicole Wallace to strategize against the network's shift away from left-leaning politics.
