SAVANNAH, GEORGIA: Vice President Kamala Harris riposted GOP rival Donald Trump's attacks on her racial identity as she sat down for her first major interview since entering the 2024 presidential race in July following President Joe Biden's historic withdrawal.

The Democratic presidential nominee was joined by her running mate, Minnesota Gov Tim Walz, in their sit down with CNN's Dana Bash on Thursday, August 29.

Harris clapped back on Trump's accusation of her embracing her Black identity with a four-word response that indicated just how much attention she has paid to the former president's attack, as per Raw Story.

What did Kamala Harris say about Donald Trump targeting her race?

Dana Bash pointed out that Donald Trump had implied that the vice president only turned Black recently for political purposes that questioned a core part of her identity.

Shaking her head, Harris responded, "Same old tired playbook," and added with a smile, "Next question, please."

When Bash followed up, apparently expecting more explanation, the White House hopeful put an end to the topic by saying, "That's it."

Trump, since Harris became his presidential race opponent last month, changed his campaign strategy into questioning her racial identity, shifting from his usual attack on former rival Biden's age and cognitive fitness.

Speaking at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in July, the real estate mogul claimed that Harris was "only promoting Indian heritage".

"I did not know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. Is she Indian, or is she Black?" he asked.

Harris, the first woman and the first person of color to become the vice president of the US, holds a biracial identity. She was born to immigrant parents; her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was an Indian, and her father, Donald Harris, was Jamaican-American.

The vice president attended the historically Black Howard University and, during her time as a senator from California, was a Congressional Black Caucus member.

Despite vying for the White House, Trump and Harris would come face to face only next month for their first presidential debate hosted by ABC News on September 10.

"This is the exact response you should give to his nonsense. make it clear that it's nonsense, but don't give the media the satisfaction of getting a soundbite of you 'getting mad,'" an individual remarked.

"The look on her face answered the question better than anything she could have said about it," someone else opined.

"VP Kamala tried so hard not to laugh but you could see all over face “I don’t have time for this foolishness!” Next question please.." another user chimed in.

"Damn right! Nobody should be asked to defend their ethnicity!!" read one remark.
