LONDON, ENGLAND: Christmas is traditionally a time for families to come together, but Prince William and Prince Harry remain estranged as 2024 draws to a close.

Hopes are now pinned on Kate Middleton to change things and mend the royal rift following her cancer diagnosis.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Christmas was private but distant, says journalist Jennie Bond

The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with King Charles and Queen Camilla, were seen greeting the public at Sandringham on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrated Christmas with their children thousands of miles away in Montecito, California.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has noted the stark contrast and commented on Harry and Meghan’s celebration, stating, “They had their own private Christmas thousands of miles away and hopefully they had a good time.”

She added, “Meanwhile, our royal family put themselves on parade and consequently enjoyed a great deal of extremely positive public approval and publicity."

"If Harry and Meghan troubled to take note of the positive feedback around the royals here, they would probably have been happy that the King and Catherine were well enough to be out and about after their cancer diagnoses," Bond added.

"They are not heartless. As for the negative publicity surrounding themselves, I hope they have learned to ignore it,” she added.

Jennie Bond sees no reconciliation between Prince Harry and Prince William in near future

Jennie Bond does not believe there will be any reconciliation between Prince Harry and Prince William in the near future.

“I don’t foresee any progress in mending fences with the King and William in the New Year. The court case against the Home Office continues to put Charles in a very awkward position,” she stated, referencing Harry’s ongoing legal battle over police protection when visiting the UK, the Mirror reported.

She added, “And I don’t think William is yet in any mood to contemplate patching things up with his brother. It could happen…one day…but there’s no sign yet,” Bond commented on the strained relationship.

“I think it’s possible that something like cancer can change perspectives – Catherine herself has said so – and that, one day, life might just seem too short to continue to bear grudges," Bond continued.

She added, "But that day may yet be a very long way off….if it ever comes at all."
