WASHINGTON, DC: Pop singer Katy Perry on Monday, Jan 26, used her Instagram platform to urge her followers to contact their US senators and oppose a proposed $10 billion increase in funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), posting a series of instructional slides that provided phone numbers and suggested messaging for constituents.

Perry’s appeal aligns with broader citizen action efforts in the wake of recent federal immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota that have drawn national attention.

Katy Perry’s Instagram slides outline call-to-action

Katy Perry told her 200 million-plus Instagram followers they have until Friday, January 30, to stop another $10 billion, on top of the $75 billion already funded, from reaching ICE.

She even shared the US Senate switchboard number and a script, making it easy for people to call their senators.

“We have until Friday, January 30th, to block $10 billion (on top of the $75B that’s already been funded) from going through to ICE,” she wrote.

Perry shared a total of six slides, the last of which was a pre-written letter, making it easy for her fans to join the movement by simply filling in a few blanks.

“WHO: YOU, THE POWER IS IN YOUR HANDS,” Perry wrote in all caps in the first slide.

Her post was in response to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill that has a Jan. 30 deadline to pass, legislation that has come under attack by Democrats after the shooting deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti (Instagram/katy perry)

The second slide, also written in caps, asserted her message, “WHAT: CALL YOUR SENATORS.”

The story slides emphasized that the moment was urgent, with a hard deadline for action tied to the legislative calendar, and included space for followers to personalize their name, state, phone number, and zip code in the template before calling their lawmakers.

Katy Perry’s reaction comes after ICE shootings

Perry joined a growing crowd of public figures and activists pushing for political action after recent incidents with federal immigration agents.

Actors, musicians, and other celebrities are speaking out, urging people to get involved.

The deaths of Renee Good, a mother of three, and Alex Pretti, an intensive care nurse, during immigration operations in Minnesota have set off protests and heated political debates.

The above-mentioned bill would secure approximately $10 billion in funding for ICE through the 2026 fiscal year, according to Politico.

A Republican source said ICE would retain approximately $75 billion in previously set funding even in a government shutdown, thanks to the “Big Beautiful Bill,” NBC News reported.

Opponents of the increase have said the funding would expand enforcement operations they view as aggressive, while supporters argue it is needed to carry out federal immigration laws.

Perry turned off the comments on her Instagram post but managed to amass over 90,000 likes within approximately 5 hours of sharing her social media post.
