LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Keith Urban is desperate to have his wife Nicole Kidman back home in his arms as she is going through an incredibly tough chapter in her life, according to sources.

The Aussie actress was hit hard by the loss of her beloved mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, in September—a devastating blow that came on the same day she was supposed to celebrate a new career milestone.

Kidman's grief has taken a toll on their marriage, leaving Urban to pick up the pieces while juggling his own demanding schedule. Insiders say that this year has tested the couple like never before.

A trying time for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman was in Venice for the prestigious film festival — set to accept the Best Actress award for her role in 'Babygirl' — when the tragic news reached her. Just hours before she was slated to accept the honor, she learned her mother had died.

While she was forced to leave the festival, the veteran actress managed to leave a powerful message that was read aloud by director Halina Reijn.

“Today I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after that my beautiful, brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, has just passed,” Kidman's statement began. “I am in shock, and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me, and she made me.”

This year has been a raging storm that both Kidman and Urban are struggling to weather.

“Keith and Nicole have had their worst year ever,” a source close to the couple shared with Radar Online. “They’ve barely spent any time together, and Nicole has been on her own through some of the most distressing times.”

Urban, 56, has been doing everything in his power to support his wife, but the physical distance between them—thanks to her demanding filming schedule and his music commitments—has made it challenging.

While Kidman has been promoting films and working on TV projects, her husband has been juggling his Las Vegas residency and touring.

The strain of it all is palpable, and friends of the couple are concerned that the actress hasn’t had the space or time to properly grieve. “The big worry on everyone’s mind is, 'how much can she take?'” the source added.

In an effort to be there for his wife, Urban is reportedly considering stepping away from touring altogether. “He owes everything, including his life, to Nicole, so quitting big live shows is an easy choice,” the insider revealed.

Urban, who’s been open about how Kidman helped him through his darkest days, feels that now it’s his turn to be her rock.

Nicole Kidman's mental health struggles

While Keith Urban plans to prioritize family time, his wife Nicole Kidman’s inner circle is worried about her mental health. “All Nicole can talk about is how she feels cast adrift without the woman she considered her guardian angel and guiding light,” a source said.

“She’s devastated, and her team and loved ones are praying her mental health is going to hold up,” they added.

Kidman herself has acknowledged the emotional toll of her loss, admitting that she’s more open to her feelings now than ever before.

In a candid interview with GQ, the Oscar winner shared, “I cry, I do. I consider myself open to emotions. More so now. Even more so.”

When asked why she feels everything so deeply these days, she didn't hold back. “Mortality. Connection. Life coming and hitting you," she said.

She elaborated, “And the loss of parents and raising children and marriage and all of the things that go into making you a fully sentient human. I’m in all of those places. So life is, whew. It’s definitely a journey. And it hits you as you get older… it’s a wake-up-at-3-am-crying-and-gasping kind of thing. If you’re in it and not numbing yourself to it. And I’m in it. Fully in it.”
