Laura Ingraham grills Trump on 50-year mortgage plan, calls it a ‘giveaway to banks’
WASHINGTON, DC: Fox News’ Laura Ingraham pressed President Donald Trump on Monday night about his administration's controversial 50-year mortgage idea.
During an interview on 'The Ingraham Angle,' Ingraham focused on soaring home prices, frustrated first-time buyers, and Trump’s latest proposal offering longer loan terms.

“Housing costs are still out of reach, and another thing that your administration is trying to tackle,” Ingraham said. “The average age of first-time home buyers are now up to age 40, which is sad for the country.”
Trump insisted the problem wasn’t his doing. “Yeah, but I inherited that. Look, you have to understand” he said, before being interrupted by Ingraham.
“Right, but let me get to the question, though, because your housing director has proposed something that has enraged your MAGA friends, which is this 50-year mortgage idea,” she cut in. “So, a significant MAGA backlash, calling it a giveaway to the banks and simply prolonging the time it would take for Americans to own a home outright. Is that really a good idea?”
Trump shrugged it off. “It’s not even a big deal,” he said. “I mean, you know, you go from 40 to 50 years.”

“The problem was Biden raised the interest rates — and we’ve had a lousy Fed person, Jerome Powell, we call him Too Late. He was too late in everything. But even with rates up, the economy’s the strongest it’s ever been. Once we get a normal person at… pic.twitter.com/E6r9UGMdon
“Thirty to 50,” Ingraham corrected. Trump tried to frame the plan as simple math rather than a Wall Street scheme. “You pay something less, from 30, some people had a 40, now they have a 50,” he explained. “All it means is you pay less per month, you pay it over a longer period of time. It’s not like a big factor. It might help a little bit.”
He then took shots at Fed Chair Jerome Powell and the Biden administration.
“But the problem was that Biden did this. He increased the interest rates, and I have a lousy Fed person who’s gonna be gone in a few months, fortunately. I have a guy, ‘Too Late.’ You know, Jerome Powell, we call him ‘Too Late.’ He was too late on everything except when it came to before the, you know, the Democrat, so-called Democrat election, which didn’t work. But we’re gonna get interest rates down. But even with interest rates up, the economy is the strongest it’s ever been.”
Ingraham pressed him: “Then why are people saying they’re anxious about the economy? Why are they saying that?” “I don’t know that they are saying that. I think polls are fake,” Trump responded. “We have the greatest economy we’ve ever had.”
MAGA allies and conservative media slam Trump’s 50-year mortgage plan
Trump faced criticism from allies in his own party.
Rep Thomas Massie (R-Ky) asked, “How is ‘here, enjoy this 50-year mortgage’ different from ‘you will own nothing and you will like it’?”

“here, enjoy this 50 year mortgage”
different from
“you will own nothing and you will like it”
Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga) also pushed back. “I don’t like 50-year mortgages as the solution to the housing affordability crisis,” she said. “It will ultimately reward the banks, mortgage lenders, and homebuilders while people pay far more in interest over time and die before they ever pay off their home. In debt forever, in debt for life!”

Trump’s housing idea also raised eyebrows among conservative media personalities.
Glenn Beck wrote, “A 50-year mortgage plan is being floated to help younger generations ‘afford’ the American Dream. But that’s not homeownership. That’s RENTING. It’s almost like… ‘you will own nothing and be happy.’”

The Trump team wants to roll out a 50-year mortgage plan to make monthly payments smaller. Sounds cool… until you do the math.
