WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump on Friday, December 5, broke out his signature ‘YMCA’ dance at FIFA’s World Cup 2026 draw in Washington, leaving world leaders entertained.
Lip reader Jeremy Freeman told the New York Post that he observed the president lip-syncing the iconic Village People song and even attempted to convince First Lady Melania Trump to sing or dance along.
Jeremy Freeman says Trump praised Village People to Mark Carney and Claudia Sheinbaum
Jeremy Freeman said Trump spoke directly to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, expressing his admiration for the group. “I love this,” Trump told Carney, according to Freeman. The lip reader added that Trump explained what he loves about the Village People, who had also performed during Trump’s 2025 inauguration festivities.
Trump reportedly encouraged Melania to join in, saying, “Come on, join in,” while turning to the world leaders and adding, “Come on, they make me happy.”
Victor Willis, lead singer of the Village People, told ‘Fox & Friends’ in 2024 that he had eased his opposition to Trump using ‘YMCA’ at rallies because the president “seems to genuinely like the song.” He noted at the time, “[Trump] seemed to be bringing so much joy to the American people with this use of ‘YMCA.’”
Despite ongoing trade tensions, Trump appeared cordial with both leaders ahead of the global soccer tournament. Before the draw at the Kennedy Center, he told reporters, “We’re getting along. I think we have a meeting set up for some time after the event.” The USA, Canada, and Mexico are co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Donald Trump suggests NFL needs a new name
Separately, Trump suggested the United States should reconsider the name for American football, arguing that soccer should retain the name “football” globally. Speaking during the World Cup draw, he said the distinction has caused confusion.
“When you think about it, shouldn’t it really be called— I mean this is football, there’s no question about it. We need to come up with another name for the NFL stuff,” Trump said.
