Melania’s Halloween hand-hold with Trump sparks fresh questions as expert spots 'awkward' moment
WASHINGTON, DC: First lady Melania Trump made a rare public appearance alongside President Donald Trump during the White House Halloween celebration, but their interaction became a talking point after a body language expert examined their gestures.
The first lady joined her husband on the South Lawn on Thursday, October 29, as the White House welcomed around 6,000 people for the annual festivities. While the couple greeted children and handed out sweets, expert Judi James noticed something interesting about the way they held hands.
Speaking to the Irish Star, James suggested that Melania appeared more confident and took the lead during the interaction, while Trump looked a little "awkward" beside her.

Melania takes the lead as Trump looks 'awkward' during Halloween event
James observed that Melania "made a seasonal upgrade to her body language" during the Halloween celebration. According to the expert, the first lady appeared to take control of the interaction when she reached for her husband's hand.
She pointed out that Trump's right hand was hanging "dully" at his side, while his center of gravity appeared to be "over the front of his shoes."
James paid particular attention to the way Melania held his hand, describing it as an "encasing" gesture that suggested authority and leadership.

"It's her reaching out an arm to take his hand firmly and when she does it's a full-on 'encasing' gesture with her hand on top in the clasp signaling control and leadership," James explained.
The expert also noticed a small movement from Melania that she considered significant. The first lady gently stroked and caressed Trump's hand with her thumb while they stood together.
James described the gesture as "as strong a display of affection as you will possibly see from her to her husband in public."

According to James, the subtle movement suggested that Melania's gesture was genuine rather than simply something done for the cameras.
She also suggested that the first lady may have been trying to reassure and soothe her husband during the public appearance.
James noted that Trump stepped closer after Melania tugged at his hand, describing his movement as "an act of obedience."

"She then waves and smiles as though the closer pose suits her intentions," James observed.
The expert also discussed what happened as the couple prepared to move indoors. According to her reading of the interaction, Trump later patted Melania's hand, which she interpreted as an act of apology and praise after he had ignored an earlier gesture from his wife to step back inside.
The Halloween celebration ran from 3.30 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, with thousands of families attending the event.
Children arrived in costumes and took part in the festivities, while the couple handed out sweets. Halloween music was also performed by the United States Air Force Strolling Strings.
Melania and Donald Trump's public appearance renews attention on their marriage
The appearance also comes amid continued scrutiny of the couple's relationship and reports about their separate routines at the White House.
According to a Daily Beast report, author Michael Wolff claimed that Melania and Trump live "parallel lives." He alleged that the first lady had delayed moving to Washington after Trump's first term and that there had been anxiety about a possible "presidential separation."
Wolff also claimed that Melania was "almost never there" even after moving into the White House and that the couple "barely speak."

He further described their marriage as being "probably at its lowest point since the Stormy Daniels trial and that was very low."
However, White House spokesman Steven Cheung pushed back against Wolff's claims, describing the author as someone with a "debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome."
Cheung also accused Wolff of routinely fabricating stories originating from his "sick and warped imagination."
