LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Madame Joyce has slammed Tyla after she posted a video clarifying her viral Met Gala moment with Rihanna

The social media personality asserted that the Barbadian singer “is nobody's mate” and also accused Tyla of pushing a narrative that the legendary singer “dismissed” her.

Madame Joyce says Tyla's video was unnecessary

“Rihanna's not your age, mate, to be saying that. I'm also not in the belief that because somebody's older than me I must respect them but I don't think the video was necessary,” she said.

Continuing, Joyce noted that she’s not against Tyla and called her music phenomenal, but she also called her out for the video.

“That video was posted because it does [perpetrate] a narrative that, oh yeah, you know, I said hi to her but she was like, oh I'm busy and dismissed me. I don't think that was a good call from her,” the radio personality stated.

Madame Joyce asks Tyla to give respect to Rihanna

Joyce went on to add that she may sound old school, but “I feel like there's a level of respect that I personally would have had even if I'm about a woman who has 20 years on her back and is one of the most influential artists of all time. Anti was made 10 years ago.”

“Rihanna's nobody's mate. So even when I saw kind of the energy that she came with in the video like, yeah, yeah, you know, I met Rihanna, you know, like I'm sure when  the time is right we can hang. That's not your age, mate,” she asserted.

Joyce was referring to the video shared by the South African singer, 24, in which she said that although she stood very near Rihanna at this year’s gala, she did not interact with her because of last year’s experience.

“Everyone knows I love RiRi,” the ‘Jump’ hitmaker said, before recalling that at the 2025 Met Gala, she greeted the Fenty beauty founder but RiRi responded, saying: “Hey, my baby daddy is calling me,” and immediately left the scene, which made Tyla feel “awkward”.

Netizens say Tyla and Rihanna are 'not on the same level'

Meanwhile, people have different views on the whole viral moment and Tyla’s response.

One X user wrote, “I still don’t understand what was bad about the video. She said Rihanna was busy and she didn’t want to disturb her. This all just makes Rihanna look bad because her fans are saying Tyla is a nobody and Rihanna shouldn’t be nice to a nobody. That would be rude of Rihanna.”

Another user shared, “It was already trending!!! And that’s how Tyla talk Very unserious Whatever Rihanna did her thing Now is Tyla era.”

“She’s right, i have to agree that video was unnecessary, there’s always right time right place.. and if the first meet up didn’t work out, try again until you’re sure this person truly was ignoring you,” a comment on X read.

“Mind you Tyla made that video to address the fact that Riri didn’t ignore her she just said she was busy,” a person clarified.

“She’s right Rihanna is not her mate nor is her peer. They are not on the same level and probably never will be,” someone commented.
