PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Former President Donald Trump indicated on Monday, February 5, that he would make a decision regarding the fate of the Republican National Committee (RNC) chairwoman, Ronna McDaniel, the day after the GOP primary in South Carolina on February 24.

McDaniel, a long-standing leader of the Republican Party, has been facing a financial crisis in the RNC, and individuals associated with Trump are making efforts to secure control of the organization.

McDaniel, who was elected as Chairwoman of the Republican Party in 2017 following her successful management of Trump's 2016 campaign in Michigan, won a record fourth term in 2023, and was expected to continue in her post until 2025, according to Mediaite.

What did Trump say in his Truth Social post on Monday?

Trump posted on Truth Social, “Things are looking great in the Presidential Race of 2024 against Crooked Joe Biden. We have Leads, in many cases substantial, in virtually every Head-to-Head Poll. The Primary seems to be over, but I’ll be going to South Carolina next week to finish off a very unpopular Candidate. On Thursday, I’m heading to Nevada for the Nevada Caucus, where there are 26 Delegates – Hopefully, we’ll get most of them.”

The 77-year-old GOP presidential contender continued, “In my successful run in 2016, the State of Michigan really came through - First time in Decades that it was won by a Republican, and it was headed up by my friend Ronna McDaniel. Ronna is now Head of the RNC, and I’ll be making a decision the day after the South Carolina Primary as to my recommendations for RNC Growth.”

While the former POTUS did not provide any specific details regarding his “recommendations” for the growth of the RNC, his statement suggested that Ronna McDaniel's status as the Chairwoman of the Republican National Committee is contingent upon the outcome of the South Carolina primary.

McDaniel has faced severe criticism from Trump supporters and many members of the Republican base, who hold her responsible for the Democratic victories in 2018 and 2020, as well as the Republican Party's failure to regain control of the Senate in 2022.

During an interview with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on her show 'Sunday Morning Futures', Trump remarked, "You have to understand, I have nothing to do with the RNC, I'm separate."

“I think she did great when she ran Michigan for me… I think she did okay, initially, in the RNC. I would say right now, there’ll probably be some changes made,” Trump shared when pressed on his longtime ally.

During a subsequent televised interview with Newsmax on Monday, a reporter asked Trump, “Is it time for Ronna McDaniel to step aside?”

The former United States President remarked, “I think she knows that, I think she understands that.”

However, following a meeting on Monday between Trump and McDaniel that reportedly lasted over two hours, the MAGA figurehead sent out the aforementioned post on Truth Social.

Two individuals who were present at the meeting described it as positive and stated that Trump had not issued any ultimatums, per a report by The Washington Post.

One of the individuals present during the meeting between the RNC Chair and the former President on Monday claimed that McDaniel was not committed to staying until Election Day but had not decided on leaving yet, and that Trump had yet to commit to any sort of decision.

Additionally, a person familiar with Trump's thinking claims that he has started floating the names of potential replacements, including Joe Gruters of Florida and Michael Whatley of North Carolina, although he has not yet made any official announcements or commitments.
