MAGA slams anti-Trump protests as chaos erupts outside White House: 'Pathetic, pointless, and paid-for'

WASHINGTON, DC: There were multiple protests on Saturday, August 16, at the nation’s capital as hundreds rallied against President Donald Trump’s move to federalize local policing in DC.

The crowd first gathered in Dupont Circle, belting out chants of “Shame” and “Trump must go now!” while demanding an end to the “crime emergency” Trump slapped on the city with an executive order Monday.

From there, the group marched straight to the White House. DC cops and National Park Service police stood by watching, while protesters kept the chants rolling.

The event was organized by the “Free DC” movement, which has long been fighting for statehood and local control. Their latest push builds off the 2023 “Hands Off DC” campaign, a mobilization that fought back against congressional meddling in the city’s criminal justice reforms.

Trump deploys National Guard to DC

The protest didn’t happen in a vacuum.

It came just as three states, including West Virginia, South Carolina, and Ohio, announced they were sending hundreds more National Guard troops to DC, stacking onto the 800 Guard members already activated under Trump’s federal takeover order.

Locals are now spotting Guard troops patrolling landmarks like the National Mall and Union Station, while federal agents have popped up in high-traffic neighborhoods.

The administration even tried to make the head of the DEA an “emergency police commissioner,” but dropped the idea Friday after the district’s top lawyer sued.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, meanwhile, told the Metropolitan Police Department to play ball with federal immigration enforcement.

Liberals fume at Trump’s 'crime emergency'

Plenty of DC liberals aren’t buying the Donald Trump narrative that their city is overrun with danger.

“I think he doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” said John Smith. “I’m a little old white man and I walk around safely all the time.”

Catherine Ernst, who’s lived in the DC area for seven years, told NPR she showed up to the march because she refuses to just sit back. “It’s a lot better than lying down and letting it happen. We need more people in the movement to stop what’s happening,” she said, albeit she admitted she was hoping for a bigger turnout.

Sam Goldman, a spokesperson for Refuse Fascism, put it bluntly. “We have to turn the tide. We have to wake up all the decent people in this country, including in Washington, DC. Millions and millions in our bones hate everything that Trump and MAGA represent, everything they’ve done and everything they’re doing," he raged.

MAGA supporters slam DC crime crackdown protesters

While protesters chanted outside the White House, MAGA was having a field day roasting them online.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham dismissed the demonstrations as “pathetic, pointless, and paid-for,” in an X (formerly Twitter)

Trump loyalist Laura Loomer blasted the demonstrators as “Deranged anti-Trump, pro-Hamas protesters” who were “cursing and screaming at National Guard members today who were protecting the public on the National Mall.”

She added, “The left’s anti-Trump movement truly hates America. It’s also important to note that pro-Hamas protesters took to the streets in New York City today, where they chanted GLOBALIZE THE INTIFADA. It seems today’s anti-public safety ‘protests’ were well-funded. The Left wants our communities to be full of crime and hostile foreign terrorists and illegal aliens who kill Americans and commit horrific violent crimes.”

Even the White House piled on. Spokesperson Abigail Jackson ripped into the demonstrators. “All the DC liberals sharing videos of themselves berating law enforcement are only humiliating themselves," she said.

“How lost do you have to be to walk up to a law enforcement officer and harass them when they’re helping protect communities & stop violent crime? Seriously, seek help," Jackson added on X.
