PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: A no-nonsense Donald Trump isn’t underestimating President Joe Biden and views the June 27 presidential debate as a competitive face-off between the two party’s respective presidential candidates.

Contrary to popular belief, the former POTUS expects the 81-year-old incumbent president to be fully prepared and determined to win, according to Raw Story.

On CNN's ‘The Source', New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman told host Kaitlan Collins, “I was told that this was where he and his team were heading as they went into the debate. They were trying to move from, you know, Biden can't tie his shoelaces and is going to trip his way all over the stage, to trying to suggest that they expect that he will be good in the same way he was, say, at the State of the Union several months ago.”

"So there is an awareness in Trump's world that they have lowered the expectations pretty solidly for Biden,” Haberman added. “I don't know that you know a week out from the debate is enough time to try to recast that."

What’s the Trump team’s outlook heading into the presidential debate on June 27?

In a modest turn of phrase, Maggie Haberman claimed that former President Donald Trump believes that he disregarded Joe Biden during their 2020 debate and did so largely by his constant interruptions.

"Trump did not help himself in 2020 when he was constantly interrupting Biden — he knows that... and his folks are aware that they set the expectations too low for Biden, and Biden beat him," she explained.

During an episode of the ‘All In’ podcast aired on Thursday, former President Trump mentioned that he had rewatched a 2012 debate in which then-Vice President Joe Biden faced off against then-Wisconsin Rep Paul Ryan (R-WI).

Paul Ryan was the running mate of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney at that time.

In the podcast, the 78-year-old MAGA figurehead remarked that Biden "destroyed Paul Ryan" in the 2012 vice presidential debate, and he also teased the retired Republican for "chugging water left and right" during the debate.

"I didn't think a human being would be able to drink so much water at one time," Trump quipped.

However, the 2024 presumptive Republican presidential nominee is unwavering in his belief that he must keep his wits about him this time around in regard to the political opponent standing in his way of reclaiming the White House.

"I happen to think he's incompetent for a lot of reasons," Trump said of President Biden. "I think he's incompetent because he has gotten the worst policies, both foreign policy and internal policy."

"I assume he's going to be somebody that will be a worthy debater. I don't want to underestimate him," Trump clarified.

Meetings with legislators have constituted a large portion of the 45th President of the United States's debate preparation thus far.

"They're doing what is described to me as 'policy time'," Haberman claimed. "They are having him meet with various people. They're cycling in advisers, senators, a bunch of folks to talk about different topics, whether that's abortion or health care or in some cases talking about how to answer questions about Jan. 6 and the attacks on Trump about posing a threat to democracy."

Internet weighs in as reporter claims Donald Trump isn't underestimating Joe Biden

One X user remarked, "Oh, Maggie Haberman. That famously unbiased journalist who is not at all a mouthpiece for Trump."

Another user said, "Trumps only strategy is constant interruption."

Another user wrote, "Of course, Trump has to make up reasons why he'll either chicken out or just lose the debate."

One X user claimed, "More proof that Trump will back out."

Another user asked, "If expectations are low for Joe Biden, how low can it go for Donald Trump? Trump has absolutely nothing to offer during a debate. How many times can he say MAGA and never back it up with anything real. Trump just whines and says MAGA and his idiotic crowd cheers. WHY?"

Finally, this user tweeted, "Those two idiots couldn't debate a brick wall. F**k both of those guys."
