In an appearance on Thursday’s episode of Sophia Bush’s podcast 'Work in Progress,' Maren Morris described the threats as "obviously scary" for a young mother.

“It wasn’t just death threats against me; it was against my son, too. So it’s like, ‘Oh wow, now we’re involving the kids,'" she said, describing it as "incredibly dangerous and scary" to face threats aimed at her infant child.

Reflecting on her decision to call out Wallen, Morris expressed that she has no regrets and stands firmly by her stance against racism in the music industry.

“I feel the exact same way as I did that day,” she said. “Would I maybe use the channels of Twitter again? Probably not. There’s probably more dignified ways to get my point across but hey, it is what it is.”

She added, “Don’t be racist. Don’t be transphobic. Don’t be homophobic. I still stand by that so if you’re expecting me to feel bad, no I [don’t]. In fact, the only thing that made me feel bad is realizing even in this community of music here in Nashville—and I still live here—it’s like, ‘Oh wow, who will go to bat for you were people of color and who will go to bat for them?'”

“When you're so in the middle of this eye of the hurricane, you're like, 'How are people this pissed over the criticism of cruelty?'" Morris further remarked.

"And I think it's because they're not only defending the person that said this, but they are taking it personally as if I'm criticizing them, which I think says a lot more about their interpretation of criticism and what that content was than me as a person calling out someone using the N-word. Or even transphobia that I've criticized in the past — that sort of exploded in another wave,” she added.

After Maren Morris revealed that her son received death threats following her criticism of Morgan Wallen for using a racial slur, some fans criticized her for revisiting the 2021 incident, labeling her response as "exhausting."

In February 2021, TMZ released a video showing Morgan Wallen returning home drunk with friends and using the N-word.

Maren Morris responded on Twitter, criticizing the double standards in the industry and highlighting how a female country artist would "be dropped, endorsements lost, and become social pariahs to Music Row."

Maren Morris remarked, “It actually is representative of our town [Nashville] because this isn’t his first ‘scuffle,’ and he just demolished a huge streaming record last month regardless. We all know it wasn’t his first time using that word. We keep them rich and protected at all costs with no recourse.”

She highlighted Wallen's previous controversies and his continued success despite them, as per EW.

A week later, Wallen issued an apology video, saying,  "I appreciate those who still see something in me and have defended me. But for today, please don't. I was wrong. I fully accept any penalties I'm facing please don’t."
