DETROIT, MICHIGAN: Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene accused Dr Anthony Fauci of committing "crimes against humanity" and promised to send him to prison over his Covid-19 response.

The Georgia Republican, a staunch ally of Donald Trump, doubled down on her criticism of the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases while speaking at the Turning Point Action conference on Saturday, June 15, in Detroit, according to The Hill.

"Dr Anthony Fauci should be tried for crimes against humanity," Greene said to the conservative audience, who welcomed her remarks with "lock him up" chants.

"Well I can assure that if I have anything to do with it, I will lock him up. He belongs in prison," the GOP congresswoman vowed.

Marjorie Taylor Greene blames Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi for Covid-19 lockdown

Greene also directed her criticism towards President Joe Biden and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over the strict lockdown measures implemented across the country during Covid-19.

"I'll never forget when the Biden administration and Nancy Pelosi, as speaker of the House, brought in nearly 30,000 National Guardsmen and turned our Capitol complex into a military base," the Trump ally said.

"They masked schoolchildren. They shut down schools. They closed beaches. They silenced your speech."

However, Biden was not the president then. It was Trump who deployed the National Guard to disperse the rioters who attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2021, to prevent the certification of Biden's 2020 election victory. The Trump administration made the move after congressional leaders, including Republicans Sen Mitch McConnell and Rep Kevin McCarthy, requested the then-president to take action.

After taking oath as the president on January 20, 2021, Biden's administration mandated masks on public transportation but avoided a federal mask mandate.

Conservatives targeted Fauci over his advocacy for wearing masks and strict social distancing measures and accused him of hiding the origin of the pandemic.

Earlier this month, the ex-NIAID director testified at a hearing in front of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, where Republican lawmakers accused him of using a private email server to avoid the federal Freedom of Information Act requests.

During the heated hearing, Greene refused to address Fauci as a "doctor", arguing he did "not deserve to have a license".

One user wrote, "MTurdG's recent attack on Dr Fauci is a reprehensible attempt to divert blame from Trump, who discarded the playbook meant to protect Americans during such crises."

Another noted, "She forgets to mention Trump was in office when the city was in lockdown and he was clearing protesters for a photo op with a book he has never opened. MAGA has never been known for their facts."

"Marge has apparently forgotten the thousands of Americans that died while trump was POTUS because he ignored Covid when he knew it was lethal, lied that it was a Democratic hoax, lied when he said it would go away like a miracle, and played golf every day," added a third user.

A fourth response read, "Dr Fauci advised the administration. He had no authority. The administration and its president (Trump) are responsible."

Another person remarked, "Her usual attempt to demonize Dr Fauci instead of DJT who was President at the time."

"MTG's delusions of grandeur & crazy conspiracy theories are the opposite of helpful," someone else remarked.

An individual wrote. "@mtgreenee March 2020 the President who shut the country down was Trump. Trump messaging mixed the signals so bad we stayed shut down and people died by the thousands. The covid was on Trump's watch, masks were on Trump's watch and lockdowns were on Trump's watch! Remember OWP???"

Another user said, "Unbelievable! When it comes to Covid, Trump is responsible for millions of dead people! Fauci did everything he could to help people and prevent the spread of the disease. Green and her followers are the nutists stupidest people in the world!"
