Mark Cuban emerges as stronger Dem 2028 presidential candidate than Kamala Harris: Poll
WASHINGTON, DC: A latest poll analyzing the popularity of candidates among the American population ahead of the midterm elections revealed that entrepreneur Mark Cuban is deemed stronger than former Vice President Kamala Harris.
The new poll suggests that a majority of participants think Cuban would be more likely to win the 2028 presidential election against a Republican than Harris.
58% respondents think Mark Cuban would be able to defeat a Republican candidate
A Yale Youth Poll found that 58% of respondents said Mark Cuban would be able to defeat a Republican candidate, compared with 55% who were in favor of Kamala Harris.
However, Californian Governor Gavin Newsom got an unmatched favourable response with 72% of respondents backing him.
Arizona Sen Mark Kelly received backing from 70% of respondents who think of him as a strong Democratic candidate, placing him in second. Kentucky Gov Andy Beshear and Illinois Gov JB Pritzker tied for third at 64%, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was fifth at 61%.
Marc Cuban said he would only run for president if Trump sought a third term
Marc Cuban has said that he would not run for the presidential election unless President Donald Trump seeks an unprecedented third term.
"I'm not going to do it," he said. "I've said the only way I would do it is if Trump tried to run for a third term. Because then that's just changing everything, right? And that's a true threat."
"But other than that, I'm not going to put my family through that, you know?" Cuban added, noting that his three children are between the ages of 15 and 21.
Young Democrats support Kamala Harris
As per the poll, 61% respondents between the ages of 18 and 34 backed Kamala Harris and 47% backed Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a hypothetical 2028 primary. Older Democrats think Newsom (28%) and Buttigieg (19%) are strong candidates.
Earlier this month, Harris revealed her intention to contest the 2028 election, saying she was “thinking about” it.
“Listen, I might. I’m thinking about it,” she said during a public conversation at the National Action Network convention on Friday, April 10.
However, Newsom, who is often seen mocking and criticising Trump, is widely considered a potential 2028 presidential candidate.
The Yale Youth Poll carried out an online survey, asking 3,429 registered voters about their preferences among the Democratic candidates. The survey was held between March 9 and March 23, with an under-35 oversample of 2,008.
