The fires, which have swept through Malibu, Los Angeles, and surrounding areas, have already displaced thousands of residents.

In a public statement, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry highlighted the urgency of relief efforts.

“In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life,” they stated.

The couple also emphasized on the importance of community support, urging residents to open their homes to evacuees and check on vulnerable neighbors.

“The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need,” they shared, encouraging donations and volunteer assistance.

Montecito faces potential power outages amid fire threat

Adding to the challenges, utility companies have issued warnings about possible Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) in Montecito and nearby areas.

Southern California Edison (SCE) confirmed that power outages might occur to prevent live electrical wires from sparking further fires.

Meghan and Prince Harry purchased their Montecito mansion for $14.65 million in 2020. The mansion's price has now soared to nearly $29.6 million, according to a report.

According to SCE, approximately 4,000 customers in Santa Barbara County could be impacted by these precautionary power cuts.

An alert specific to the couple’s neighborhood reads, “This location is in a High Fire Risk Area. Power may be shut off during a PSPS to prevent wildfires. Increased fire risk conditions are expected from 1/7/2025 to 1/8/2025.”

Montecito, known for its affluent residents and scenic coastal properties, has faced wildfire threats in the past.

In 2017, a massive blaze reached the community, but most homes, including those of high-profile residents, sustained minimal damage.

An online checker for Meghan and Harry’s home revealed that their property lies in a high fire risk zone.

A-listers, including Anna Faris, Leighton Meester, Paris Hilton, and Adam Brody, have lost their homes while others like Mandy Moore and Mark Hamill face an anxious wait to learn the fate of their properties.
