WASHINGTON, DC: Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly said the recent ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran “sounds very much like surrender,” while expressing support for ending the conflict.
Speaking on 'Piers Morgan Uncensored' on Thursday, April 9, she described the war as misguided and emphasized the need for de-escalation.
The remarks come after President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire arrangement with Iran following heightened tensions in the region. Kelly’s comments also follow her recent criticism of the broader conflict and US involvement.
Megyn Kelly criticizes ceasefire deal and calls conflict 'folly'
Kelly said the ceasefire agreement reflected a concession by the United States but argued it was necessary to bring the conflict to an end.
“You've got to say, the deal sounds very much like surrender on our part, which I’m in favor of. I mean, great. This needed to end, ugly or any other way, it needed to end. It was folly to begin with. It was folly throughout. It remains folly,” she said.
Kelly reiterated her position that the conflict had been flawed from the outset, referencing earlier remarks in which she described 'Operation Epic Fury' as “clearly Israel’s war.”
She also pointed to commentators and political figures she said supported the conflict, including Mark Levin, Ben Shapiro, and Lindsey Graham.
Her comments come amid an ongoing public dispute with Levin, with both figures exchanging criticisms in recent weeks.
Kelly said Levin appeared upset following the ceasefire agreement, stating he was “practically in tears” because “we didn’t see it through, I guess, with a nuclear bomb.”
She added, “He would love to see Lebanon completely bombed and to be made to look like Gaza.”
Megyn Kelly questions regime change and cites strategic concerns
Kelly also challenged claims that the ceasefire had resulted in regime change in Iran, following statements by Trump. “He’s pushing the BS claim that we affected regime change. No, we didn’t,” she said. “It’s the same regime, just different players.”
She argued that while the US military has significant capabilities, past conflicts in the Middle East demonstrate the limitations of military intervention.
“The Iranians proved to be tough MF’ers,” Kelly said, adding that Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz provided it with strategic leverage.
“And they realized that they had something far more powerful than a nuclear bomb, they had control over the Strait of Hormuz," she added.
Kelly’s appearance came shortly after Trump halted planned strikes on Iranian infrastructure ahead of a deadline and later suggested that a broader period of stability could follow.
The president said a “Golden Age” for the Middle East could be possible, citing fatigue with ongoing conflict.
However, developments in the region have raised questions about the durability of the ceasefire, including reports that Iran moved to close the Strait of Hormuz. The situation continues to be closely monitored as diplomatic and military considerations remain in flux.
