MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Michael Cohen, the former "fixer" for Donald Trump, has expressed serious concerns about the former president's potential behavior if jailed.

Following Trump's conviction in the hush money trial, Cohen expressed concerns regarding the national security risks posed by Trump's tendency to disclose classified information.

Michael Cohen says Donald Trump has shown a tendency to 'give away American secrets'

Cohen, who was the prosecution's star witness, is particularly "afraid" that Trump might divulge US secrets for financial gain to boast.

“You now have a Republican leading candidate, who’s a felon, who’s going to be debriefed on national security issues knowing how loose-lipped he is,” Cohen said on MSNBC.

He referenced past incidents where Trump allegedly shared sensitive information inappropriately, including with an Australian billionaire at Mar-a-Lago and during a private meeting with Vladimir Putin.

“How he’s willing to give away America’s secrets to Vladimir Putin, or to anybody for money or just simply for bragging rights,” Cohen said.

Michael Cohen says Donald Trump will let America 'burn to the ground'

Trump was convicted on all 34 felony counts in Manhattan, with the jury finding him guilty of falsifying business records to hide alleged affairs during the 2016 presidential campaign.

His sentencing is set for July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention, where he is expected to be confirmed as the party's nominee.

“I mean these are not normal things. You do not allow somebody like Donald Trump to be declassified, especially now as a felon,” said Cohen, who has been a vocal critic of Trump.

His primary concern is that Trump, if incarcerated, might trade secrets out of spite or for minor comforts.

“So, my concern is, in a prison situation, he is willing to give away these secrets, as I always say, for a bag of tuna or a book of stamps. He will do it because he does not care," Cohen claimed as The Hill reported.

"If America turns against him, he would rather see America burn to the ground and thats who Donald Trump is...," Cohen said.

Internet reacts to Michael Cohen's claim of Donald Trump leaking secrets in prison

Reactions to Cohen’s claims have varied, reflecting the divided opinions on Trump’s potential imprisonment and its implications. One person wrote on X, "He's basically advocating for Trump to be 'silenced.'"

“I'm afraid if he doesn't," reacted one on YouTube. “What is he suggesting as a solution? Permanent solitary? An iron mask? Execution?” asked one on X.

Another said, “Oh crap….he probably will go full on traitor.”

Despite the controversy, some agreed with Cohen’s concerns, with one suggesting, “Exactly the reason Trump should be jailed immediately upon sentencing!... so he has no time to spill secrets!”

Others, however, mocked the notion, pointing to Cohen’s own past, “The guy who lies under oath all the time is worried about others being loose-lipped?”

"Michael Cohen is nothing short of a hero in my book. He and his family deserve to be protected from Trump and his MAGA nuts," another person commented on YouTube.

"Fear cannot stand in the way of justice. Lock him up!!" commented one more.
