Michael Strahan's daughter Isabella celebrates being cancer-free 9 months after discovering brain tumor

DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA: Isabella Strahan, daughter of Good Morning America host Michael Strahan, has shared the joyful news that she is officially cancer-free, as reported by PEOPLE.

On Thursday, July 18, the 19-year-old posted an update on her YouTube series, detailing her health journey following emergency surgery in October 2023 to remove a large medulloblastoma, a type of malignant tumor in her cerebellum.

In her latest vlog, titled "Goodbye Hospital," Isabella was seen at Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center in Durham, NC, where she had her chemotherapy port removed.

Reflecting on the procedure, she described the pain she experienced the following day. “My side hurts a lot. It feels like I got stabbed. I was like, ‘Oh it doesn’t hurt that much.’ I think it’s because all of the stuff wore off. I can’t stand up straight,” she said. Isabella also mentioned feeling heart cramps, possibly due to the removal of the port.

Despite the discomfort, the outcome was positive. After receiving an MRI and reviewing her scans with her doctors, Isabella shared her elation at being cancer-free. “It was a great, great scan. Everything was clear. Cancer-free and everything is great. I don’t have another doctor’s appointment until October,” she said, beaming with happiness.

Isabella expressed mixed emotions about leaving the hospital, feeling a sense of attachment to her doctors and the medical staff who supported her. “I miss my doctors already and everyone who's helped me because they’re all so nice. I feel like I’m just saddened today knowing that I wasn’t gonna be going back for a while because I love them so much. So, that was my last hospital vlog until October!” she shared.

Last month, Isabella celebrated a major milestone by completing her cancer treatment journey. Since her diagnosis, she has undergone six weeks of radiation, four rounds of chemotherapy, and three brain surgeries.

In a vlog posted on June 16, Isabella joyfully rang the hospital bell, a symbolic gesture marking the end of her treatment, surrounded by family and friends. They celebrated with balloons, bubbles, and homemade posters.

Isabella's father, Michael Strahan, expressed his pride and admiration for his daughter on Instagram. “@isabellastrahan you are a SUPERWOMAN! Ringing that bell, finishing chemo and on your way!” he wrote. “You continue to fight with a smile on your face, strength, and determination. I am one proud Dad! Love you, Bella.”

Isabella now looks forward to a future free from cancer, with her next doctor's appointment scheduled for October. 

Isabella went public with her diagnosis in a January 2024 interview with her father and ABC News' Robin Roberts.

Michael expressed his optimism during the interview, saying, "I literally think that in a lot of ways, I'm the luckiest man in the world because I've got an amazing daughter. I know she's going through it, but I know that we're never given more than we can handle and that she is going to crush this."
