TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA: A House Republican representative contended that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas refused former president Donald Trump's request for stronger Secret Service protection on multiple occasions.

Rep Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) made the charge hours after the 78-year-old MAGA figurehead was grazed by a bullet in his right ear during his Saturday, July 13, rally in Pennsylvania, according to Fox News.



 

The Sunshine State lawmaker wrote on X, "I have very reliable sources telling me there have been repeated requests for stronger secret service protection for President Trump. Denied by Secretary Mayorkas.”

What did House Homeland Security Committee say about stronger protection requests for Donald Trump?

A source informed the aforementioned outlet that the House Homeland Security Committee intends to investigate accusations that former president Trump was denied increased Secret Service security prior to the weekend rally in the Keystone State.

"The Committee has seen these reports, as well, and are going to be conducting thorough oversight into what happened both leading up to and in the immediate aftermath of the attempted assassination of President Trump. Obviously, such reports are deeply troubling and demand investigation," the source claimed.

At the Saturday campaign event for the 2024 presumptive Republican presidential nominee in Butler, Pennsylvania, a gunman opened fire, resulting in one rally-goer being killed and two others being wounded, as reported by the Secret Service. The assailant was also fatally shot.



 

 

Rep Mike Waltz, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, declined to provide further elaboration on his accusations when contacted by the aforementioned outlet.

Additionally, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) publicly urged Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheadle to testify before his panel.

Rep James Comer stated on X, "The Oversight Committee will send a formal invitation soon."



 

Following the shooting, the ex-POTUS issued a statement on Truth Social expressing gratitude to law enforcement officials and offering condolences for the individual who lost their life.

"I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured," Trump wrote.



 

He continued, "It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening."

“GOD BLESS AMERICA!” the former president said in conclusion to his post.
