Miley Cyrus 'anxious' to speak with ex Liam Hemsworth as 'Flowers' lawsuit has 'reopened old wounds'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Miley Cyrus may be ready for her boyfriend Maxx Morando to 'put a ring on her finger,' her past with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth still haunts her.
Despite their split five years ago, the Grammy Award-winning singer is facing painful memories, especially now that her hit song 'Flowers' is at the center of a legal battle.
Miley Cyrus reportedly struggling with PTSD amid 'Flowers' legal drama
Friends close to Cyrus, 31, have revealed that the drama surrounding 'Flowers,' often labeled as a revenge track, has triggered her PTSD and is creating tension in her relationship with Maxx, 25, as per In Touch.
An insider said, “Miley — for the most — has put Liam behind her, but this business with the lawsuit has really set her off again and got her very anxious and freaked out because it’s all coming out that she wrote this song about him.”
The legal trouble began in September when Cyrus was sued over the similarities between 'Flowers,' released in 2023, and Bruno Mars’ 2013 hit 'When I Was Your Man.'

The lawsuit, filed by Tempo Music Investments in a Los Angeles court, claims that there are “striking similarities” between the two tracks, particularly since Tempo Music owns part of the rights to Mars’ song.
While Bruno Mars himself isn’t involved in the suit, the potential court battle could force Cyrus to reveal whether the song was inspired by her tumultuous relationship with Hemsworth, 34.
As the source explained as per Daily Mail, “She was still very angry and hurt when she wrote that song.”
Cyrus' hit single broke streaming records on Spotify, with many fans speculating that the lyrics directly referenced her breakup with Hemsworth.
Released on his birthday, 'Flowers' fueled rumors that it was a pointed message to her ex, and the lyrical parallels to 'When I Was Your Man' only added fuel to the fire.
Mars sings in his track, “I should have bought you flowers/and held your hand. Should have gave you all my hours/when I had the chance,” while Cyrus' lyrics say, “I can buy myself flowers/write my name in the sand... I can take myself dancing/and I can hold my own hand.”
Miley Cyrus fears revealing personal inspiration behind 'Flowers'
Cyrus faced a similar wave of anxiety back in September as a source who spoke to the Daily Mail revealed, "Everyone who knows Miley knows that this track was written as a way of healing from Liam."
“She wrote lyrics that were a reaction to Bruno’s lyrics in 'When I Was Your Man,' specifically because that was Liam’s song to her. She only cared that he knew it was for him."
The song, which became a massive success and a symbolic anthem of self-empowerment, was originally written in a much different tone.

The source adds, "Miley originally wrote it as a slow love ballad not the fast upbeat song that it became."
However, it’s not the lawsuit over potential copyright issues that’s causing the most stress for the pop star - it's the fear of being forced to reveal the true inspiration behind the track.
"Miley is worried that she will have to reveal her inspiration for writing the song,” the source revealed.

“Revealing it was specifically about Liam publicly and on record is very unsettling.”
As the legal situation unfolds, Miley is said to be keeping a close eye on how things progress.
“At this point, she is just seeing how this plays out and is hoping it gets tossed out before any of that becomes a real possibility,” the insider explained.
Miley Cyrus' Flowers lawsuit forces her to confront painful past in court
Now, with the lawsuit looming, Cyrus may have to address these personal connections in court, something she had hoped to avoid.
“It’s really not something she wanted to be forced to talk about,” the source shared.
“It’s looking like she may have to go on record in court and explain her motivations behind the song, which is just very, very painful. It’s reopened old wounds that she thought were healed, but the level of emotion this has triggered has really made it clear she’s got more healing work to do.”
Cyrus and Hemsworth's relationship spanned nearly a decade, beginning on the set of 'The Last Song' in 2010. They were engaged twice before finally marrying in December 2018.
However, their marriage was short-lived, with Cyrus announcing their separation in August 2019. Hemsworth filed for divorce shortly after, and it was finalized in January 2020.
Despite the pain of her past, Cyrus's recent lawsuit is bringing up fears among her friends that she may seek closure by reaching out to Hemsworth.
“She’s now saying she wants to speak with Hemsworth to give him a heads up and get some closure on the whole painful chapter, which isn’t going over well with Maxx,” the insider revealed.
