Morgan Wallen’s refusal to participate in musical sketch on ‘SNL’ led to Joe Jonas’ surprise cameo

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Joe Jonas reportedly stepped in for a cameo during a musical sketch on ‘Saturday Night Live’ over the weekend after Morgan Wallen refused the gig.
During the Saturday, March 29, episode of the late-night comedy sketch series, the 31-year-old singer, who was the musical guest for the episode, was requested to appear in a skit, but he “declined, so they got Joe instead,” an insider told Page Six.
The source also shared that Wallen was “not super friendly.” “They had hoped he would do the pre-tape and perhaps more, but no joy,” they added.

The insider shared that the ‘Cowgirls’ singer “did the same thing for dress [rehearsal], ie, walking off; he was done.”
However, Jonas handled the crisis well as he asked people to “believe in yourself” and “believe in the line” while making them laugh during his part.
During the song, dubbed 'Big Dumb Line’, the 35-year-old sang, “You deserve this viral Greek yogurt or to try Lisa Rinna’s wine. So don’t give up. The rewards will be splendid. Did Amelia Earhart give up? I’m not sure how that ended. But she wants you to…”

Meanwhile, it's not clear why Wallen declined the opportunity to participate in the sketch.

Kenan Thompson believes Morgan Wallen is ‘a complicated individual’

Regarding the controversial country music singer’s abrupt exit from the show as the credits began, Kenan Thompson told Entertainment Weekly, “I don't know what goes through people's minds when they decide to do stuff like that.”

“I don't know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way,” he stated.
The comedian added, “It’s definitely a spike in the norm. We're so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody's saying, 'Good job, good job, good job.' So when there's a departure from that, it's like, hmm, I wonder what that's about?”

Thompson further added, “Seems like a complicated individual, I guess. Prince did the same thing. I'm not saying Morgan Wallen is Prince, but we weren't surprised because Prince was notoriously kind of standoffish.”
The 46-year-old also slammed Wallen's Instagram story he posted that read, "Get me to God's country."

"The 'God's country' of it all is strange because it's like, what are you trying to say? You trying to say that we are not in God's country? We're not all in God's country? We're not all under God's umbrella? That's not necessarily my favorite," Thompson stated.
