GEORGIA: A Georgia couple has been charged with murder in connection with the horrific death of their 8-year-old daughter, who was struck up to 20 times with a wooden rolling pin.
Police were called to a house on Vine Springs in Bethlehem on Tuesday, January 30, afternoon after first responders found the girl dead.
Natiela Barros, Cledir Barros face charges of murder and child abuse
Sayra Barros's stepmother, 34-year-old Natiela Barros, and father, 37-year-old Cledir Mendes Barros, were arrested on several charges, including murder and child abuse, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
“[Natiela] beat the victim with a wooden rolling pin 10-20 times, refusing to get her medical care afterward, and the incident resulted in her death,” the arrest warrant states, WANF reported.
After the stepmother called her husband, he returned home and discovered the girl unconscious, according to the police. He then dialed 911 and began performing CPR.
Sayra was reportedly struck by Natiela in multiple places on her body, including the "top back of her neck," because she was upset with her. This was reported by Fox 5.
She was charged with felony and malice murder, aggravated assault, and first-degree child cruelty. She appeared before a Gwinnett County judge on Wednesday.
Natiela Barros denied bond for charges
Natelia, who identified herself as a stay-at-home mother, was denied bond by the judge, who stated, "You’re going to be here for a while."
Second-degree felony murder and second-degree cruelty to children were the charges brought against the girl's father. Information regarding the accusations was not immediately accessible.
The shocking crime stunned neighbors in the small community northeast of Atlanta.
Unidentified residents claimed to think the family consisted of four children.
The woman told Fox 5 that she had never witnessed any violence coming from that family or that house, “I’ve never seen any violence coming from that family or that home.”
