Nick Reiner shows ‘almost childlike’ behavior in jail after parents’ deaths, documentary reveals
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nick Reiner, the 32‑year‑old son of director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, is being described in jail as “almost childlike” following the alleged murders of his parents.
According to a new TMZ Investigates documentary airing on Fox Nation, sources say Nick is not mentally capable of understanding his situation or standing trial as authorities continue to investigate the brutal deaths of the beloved couple.
Nick Reiner’s behavior in jail after parents’ alleged murders
New details revealed in the documentary paint a troubling picture of Nick's state of mind following the deaths of his parents. Sources tell the special that Nick “is in no mental state to stand trial” and is currently exhibiting childlike behavior while incarcerated said TMZ executive producer Harvey Levin.
According to the documentary coverage highlighted, Nick reportedly struggles to process the consequences of the alleged murders. While he is aware of what he is accused of doing, sources say he cannot fully grasp where he is or what is happening, leading those familiar with his condition to describe his behavior as “out of his head.”
Doctors had adjusted Nick’s medication a month prior to the murders in response to his complaints of weight gain, and Levin explained that the change “messed Nick up.”
He added that Nick had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, a condition that can lead to delusions, hallucinations, and mood instability. Levin characterized the alleged murders as “incredibly brutal.”
He further highlighted the shocking nature of the crime, “We know people in the medical examiner’s office who are traumatized just by the pictures.”
Nick Reiner’s case and the documentary’s revelations
Levin stated that the killings had “all the markings of a meth murder” and noted that Nick had been using meth when he was “off the rails” following his medication change, adding that he was ultimately arrested in a drug den.
He continued, “It has the markings of somebody who was just wild, wildly strong. We have not gotten the confirmation of that, but we’ve talked to people… If he were just Nick Reiner without something additional, the carnage wouldn’t have been the way it was.”
Given the mounting case against Nick, Levin also addressed why Alan Jackson, the high-profile attorney who had previously represented him before withdrawing from the case, continues to assert his client’s innocence.
He also explained, “[Jackson] says [Nick] is not guilty. What he’s really saying is, not guilty by reason of insanity. And I think that’s gonna be the plea in this case, because there’s no way he’ll plead not guilty.”
