Oprah Winfrey trolled as she denies rumors of being paid $1M to host Kamala Harris’ campaign event
WASHINGTON, DC: Oprah Winfrey has firmly denied rumors that she was paid $1 million to host a town hall for Kamala Harris' presidential campaign. According to claims that have gained traction on social media recently, Harris' campaign spent a hefty sum to secure Winfrey for the rally and interview.
However, Winfrey, who has remained largely tight-lipped about the election results that saw Donald Trump being elected president, was quick to set the record straight. In a statement, she made it clear that she did not accept any payment for supporting the Vice President's campaign.
Oprah Winfrey refutes rumors claiming she was paid $1M for hosting Kamala Harris rally
Oprah Winfrey was recently questioned about reports claiming she received $1 million for hosting a rally and interview for Kamala Harris.
"Is it true that they paid you a million dollars for the endorsement for Kamala?" asked a reporter.
She firmly denied the allegations, stating that the reports were "not true". She added, "I did not get paid a penny. Ever," as per TMZ.
The rumors stemmed from a report in the Washington Examiner, which suggested that Winfrey's company, Harpo Productions, received a significant payment for hosting a star-studded town hall in September on behalf of the Democratic nominee.
The event, which featured appearances from stars like Meryl Streep, Bryan Cranston, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Julia Roberts, and Tracee Ellis Ross, was conducted via Zoom.
It's also important to note that Winfrey has long been a vocal supporter of the Democratic Party, previously backing presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama, as well as endorsing Hillary Clinton in 2016. In addition to hosting the town hall, Winfrey also appeared as one of the keynote speakers at a Harris rally in Philadelphia on November 4.
In the 2024 election campaign, Harris spent more money than her opponent Donald Trump, picking up numerous celebrity endorsements. She consistently outraised Trump in fundraising, even raising $1 billion. But the efforts did not yield the desired results.
