SMITH COUNTY, TEXAS: Patrick Mahomes Sr, father of NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes, has begun serving his sentence following a conviction for driving while intoxicated (DWI).

According to court records, the 54-year-old was booked into Smith County Jail on Monday, October 21, at 4.53 pm.

Mahomes Sr is expected to be released from custody on October 31, which falls on Halloween. TMZ also reported that he had a new mugshot taken at the time of his booking.

Patrick Mahomes Sr previous DUI charges

Patrick Mahomes Sr's sentence follows his guilty plea to his third DUI charge.

His first arrest occurred on February 3, just days before his son won his third Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs.

When pulled over in Tyler, Texas, Mahomes Sr had recorded a blood alcohol content of 0.23, well above the legal limit.

Body cam footage from the arrest revealed that Mahomes Sr tried to avoid being taken into custody by mentioning his son.

In the video, he is heard pleading with officers, saying, "My son is getting ready to play in the f***ing Super Bowl, OK? Just listen to me. I am not drunk. I promise you. I've had some drinks. But he can't have this right now. Listen, this can't happen."

Patrick Mahomes Sr receives probation and supervision in addition to jail time

After his August guilty plea, Patrick Sr agreed to serve 10 days in county jail.

Alongside the jail sentence, he was handed five years of probation and an additional year of "intense supervision," as per local reports.

This is not the first time Mahomes Sr has faced legal issues due to alcohol-related incidents.

In 2018, he served 40 days in county jail following a previous DWI arrest.

Additionally, in 2016, the retired MLB pitcher was charged with public intoxication during a game between Texas Christian University (TCU) and Texas Tech where his son played college football, according to Bleacher Report.

Patrick Mahomes Sr gives up alcohol after sentencing

Following his sentencing in September, Patrick Mahomes Sr told reporters he had decided to give up drinking in light of his arrest.

He shares son Patrick Mahomes and another son, Jackson Mahomes, with ex-wife Randi Mahomes. He is also the father of Zoe Mahomes whom he shares with his ex-partner Anika Cooper.

Mahomes Sr is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played from 1992 to 2003.

During his career, he pitched for teams, including the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates.

He was later inducted into the Sioux Falls Canaries Hall of Fame for his contribution to the sport, according to People.
