Prince William's friend pushes Harry to apologize for his past cocaine use during Colombia trip
LONDON, ENGLAND: Prince William’s friend thinks that the future monarch’s wayward brother Prince Harry should apologize for his past cocaine use during his upcoming trip to Colombia.
Earlier this month, it was announced that the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex would be visiting the Latin American country of Colombia starting this Thursday, August 15. The decision of their visit came at a time when the country has been dealing with the proliferation of drug-related crimes.
The Prince of Wales's friend recently spoke to The Daily Beast where they suggested that Harry should apologize for his past cocaine use as he is planning to visit Nigeria with his wife Meghan Markle.
Prince William’s friend says Prince Harry should apologize
On Sunday, the unnamed pal of Prince William said to The Daily Beast, “Harry admitted to doing coke in his book.”
The friend continued, “His trip to Colombia should include an admission that the country has been destroyed by narco-terrorists servicing wealthy drug users in the West, and he should stand up and apologize for his own participation in that disgusting trade.”
“That would be a helpful intervention,” added the source.
Harry, who would be celebrating his 40th birthday next month, wrote in his 2023 memoir ‘Spare’ about his past dalliances with cocaine.
The son of King Charles wrote in his memoir that he first tried cocaine when he was 17 to “feel different.”
He wrote, “Of course I had been taking cocaine at that time,” before adding, “At someone’s house, during a hunting weekend, I was offered a line, and since then I had consumed some more.”
Harry continued, “It wasn’t very fun, and it didn’t make me feel especially happy as seemed to happen to others, but it did make me feel different, and that was my main objective. To feel. To be different.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are going to Colombia
Following a successful Nigeria trip in May, the Sussexes’ Colombia trip would be their second international trip after stepping down as working royals.
In a statement published earlier this month, Colombia Vice President Francia Marquez said, “The forthcoming conference will unveil a comprehensive framework for creating safer physical and digital spaces, tackling issues such as cyberbullying, online exploitation, and the mental health impacts of these threats…During their visit, The Duke and Duchess, as well as The Archewell Foundation, will engage in several activities related to this important topic,” per Express.
Marquez continued, “In these vibrant locations, they will have the exceptional opportunity to engage with leaders, youth, and women who embody the aspirations and voices of Colombians committed to progress.”
“In addition to these meaningful interactions, the Duke and Duchess will experience the rich heritage of Colombia,” noted the Colombian Vice President.
The Sussexes' visit to Colombia is streamlined to promote their latest initiative, The Parents Network - an organization aimed at helping parents whose children have borne the brunt of bullying on social media.
Regarding the agenda of their visit, William’s friend said, “I can’t imagine online trolling is the biggest risk to children being exploited, enslaved and murdered by drugs gangs.”
