PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: It's no secret that Donald Trump's signature orange hue has always been a hot topic for the press.

From his first presidential run in 2016 to his latest landslide victory, the man’s golden glow is practically a cultural phenomenon at this point. But this year it seems something—or rather someone—is threatening to steal his thunder: Robert F Kennedy Jr appears to be rocking his own 'Tangerine Dream' aesthetic.

Donald Trump's tan troubles with RFK Jr

Donald Trump’s tan made its inevitable comeback during the 2024 election cycle, but it wasn’t just his complexion that had people talking. Apparently, the former 'Apprentice' host is getting a bit fed up with his inner circle. In fact, his tech-billionaire superfan Elon Musk might be overstaying his welcome.

“Elon won’t go home. I can’t get rid of him—at least until I don’t like him,” Trump joked while chatting with House Republicans in Washington, DC, according to Newsweek.

But Elon isn’t the only one testing Trump’s patience. Kennedy Jr — with his increasingly Trump-like appearance — is probably also creeping onto his radar. If there’s one thing we know about Trump, it’s that he doesn’t appreciate being upstaged—even in the fake tan department.

Lately, Kennedy Jr’s public appearances have been overshadowed by his bizarrely orange complexion. The internet, naturally, has had a field day with this.

One X (formerly Twitter) user didn’t hold back, posting a side-by-side of Trump and RFK Jr with the cheeky caption: “Wonder who spends more on fake tan, Donald Trump or RFK Jr.”

Another quipped, "Which level spray tan would you like? 1, 2, or 3? 'RFK JR., please.'"

"Man used pharmaceuticals to change himself from Irish to Italian," someone else joked.

"I always assumed is planet fitness tanning booth abuse," read a comment.

"Truly we could all be as healthy as him, who has missing chunks of his brain and leather skin from illicit gym supplements," another fumed.

Even the New American Journal chimed in with a snarky headline: “What Do Donald Trump and RFK Jr Have in Common? Maybe Giant Egos and the Same Spray-On Tan Brand?”

RFK Jr’s Donald Trump transformation

Believe it or not, Robert F Kennedy Jr wasn’t always on Team Trump. In fact, he used to be one of Donald Trump’s harshest critics. He famously compared Trump to Adolf Hitler (while adding the not-so-comforting caveat that “Hitler was interested in policy, at least”).

But in the months leading up to Election Day, Kennedy Jr went all in on MAGA. How did we get here? Well as it turns out Kennedy Jr isn’t shy about making deals. Before cozying up to Trump, he reportedly offered to endorse Kamala Harris if she gave him a cabinet position. Harris wasn’t biting, so Kennedy Jr pivoted to Trump who happily welcomed him aboard.

Now, Kennedy Jr is singing Trump’s praises and championing his cause. The man who once slammed Trump for botching his first term is now rubbing elbows—and apparently sharing tanning tips—with him.

For those who’ve followed Kennedy Jr’s career, his MAGA makeover might be a head-scratcher. Once an environmental crusader, he now supports a president-elect who dismisses the climate crisis as a hoax. Even Kennedy Jr’s old friends are baffled.

Billy Baldwin, an old acquaintance, thinks Kennedy Jr is unrecognizable—and not just because of the orange tint.

“It’s sad and surreal,” said Michael Brune, an environmental activist who was arrested alongside Kennedy Jr in 2013 during a Keystone XL pipeline protest.

Speaking to The Washington Post, Brune added, “It’s a betrayal of his values and the work that he’s done for most of his career. He’s supporting someone who’s been the most aggressive in terms of trying to undermine our bedrock environmental laws.”
