WASHINGTON, DC: Several siblings of former independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr have expressed their disapproval over the weekend following his decision to suspend his campaign and endorse the Republican nominee, former president Donald Trump, distancing himself from the Kennedy family's longstanding Democratic ties.

Kerry Kennedy, sister of RFK Jr, fiercely criticized her brother on cable shows, asserting her intention to “separate and disassociate myself from Robert Kennedy Jr and his flagrant and inexplicable effort to desecrate and trample and set fire to my father’s memory.”

Kerry Kennedy outraged as RFK Jr embraces Donald Trump

“I think if my dad were alive today, the real Robert Kennedy would have detested almost everything Donald Trump represents,” Kerry Kennedy told Jen Psaki, the former press secretary for President Joe Biden, on her MSNBC show on Sunday, August 25.

“I’m outraged and disgusted by my brother’s gaudy and obscene embrace of Donald Trump.”

Kerry, among RFK Sr's eleven children, boasts a lengthy career as a human rights attorney and presides over Robert F Kennedy Human Rights, the nonprofit founded in the wake of his assassination during the 1968 Democratic presidential nomination campaign, according to Daily Beast.

Additionally, she was previously married to former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, with their marriage ending in divorce in 2005.

Kerry, along with four other members of the northeastern political dynasty, signed a statement denouncing the endorsement. The other signatories were her siblings — Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Courtney Kennedy, Chris Kennedy, and Rory Kennedy.

“I love my brother, but this is an outrage,” Kerry had earlier told CNN's Kaitlan Collins. When asked by the anchor if she had recently spoken to her brother, she responded with a straightforward "no."

“I saw him a few weeks ago at my daughter Mariah’s wedding. But Bobby knows my view and feelings very, very well,” she added.

Max Kennedy criticizes RFK Jr's political ambitions

Max Kennedy, a younger sibling of RFK Jr, echoed many of Kerry's points in an op-ed published in the Los Angeles Times.

“His is a hollow grab for power, a strategic attempt at relevance,” Max, who has a private account, wrote about his brother, as per Daily Beast.

He added, “It is the opposite of what my father admired: ‘the unselfish spirit that exists in the United States of America,’” quoting a speech his father delivered at the University of Kansas in 1968.

In the meantime, the ex-independent candidate appeared on Fox News on Sunday, discussing the potential rift emerging within his family.

“I understand that they’re troubled by my decisions,” RFK Jr told host Shannon Bream. “But you know what—I love my family. I feel like we were raised in a milieu where we were encouraged to debate each other and debate ferociously and passionately about things, but to still love each other. They are free to take their positions on these issues.”

He stated that "many, many members" of his extensive family were involved in his campaign and supporting him. “I think we all need to be able to disagree with each other and still love each other.”

In addition to announcing that Trump would make "a series of announcements about other Democrats who are joining his campaign," RFK Jr declared he would "be campaigning actively."

“I want to make America healthy again, and so does President Trump,” he added.

RFK Jr's family slammed for not supporting him

Social media users took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam Kerry Kennedy and her siblings for not supporting RFK Jr. One social media user said, "Your father and uncle were killed for standing up to the establishment that you now love. They would be ashamed."

Another added, "Kerry Kennedy should be ashamed of herself for putting the Party above the family and for her blind loyalty to the Party!"

One person slammed RFK Jr's family and wrote, "What kind of sick person attacks family like that over political disagreements? Attacks like this make RFK look better, not worse."

"Your father would be embarrassed by your comments. You are what he was fighting against," another said while slamming Kerry's comments.

One individual remarked, "Kerry Kennedy supports the very evil that killed her father. Zero self awareness. Zero."

Another added, "It is sad to see the family of JFK going, Marxist."
