NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former president and GOP nominee Donald Trump's aides were concerned about him golfing all day and stewing as his political rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, made significant strides in the run-up to the November election, The Washington Post reported on Saturday, August 24.

According to the publication, Trump appeared cheerful while golfing, bored while attending an afternoon news conference, and sullen during a reception with megadonor Miriam Adelson, all in one day earlier this month. He had also mulled staying at home during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, from August 19 to 22, something that his campaign aides did not allow to happen.

Is Donald Trump letting the race slip away?

Donald Trump prefers a lighter schedule in August when he takes a family trip to his golf club in Bedminster and occupies himself with golf throughout the days. However, his aides did not want that to happen this time around. They feared that he would be "watching the convention every night, getting angry, and then just golfing all day and stewing".

Sources who wished to remain unnamed shared with the publication that Trump had grown annoyed with news coverage depicting him as less hard-working than Harris. To counter the narrative, his campaign launched multiple programs throughout the week of the DNC, including a rally in Glendale, Arizona, at a 20,000-seat arena.

Trump still appeared reluctant and frequently departed from policy themes assigned to each day's event in his speeches.

Former Trump White House aide Alyssa Farah Griffin told WP, "The stakes for Trump this election are arguably the highest they’ve ever been. His criminal cases don’t go away if he loses. Yet he seems to be phoning it in, running a remarkably low-energy, undisciplined campaign. From spending days off the campaign trail golfing to coming up with frankly weak nicknames like ‘Kamabala,’ it feels like he’s lost his mojo.”

Internet not at all suprised at Donald Trump's disinterest in campaigning

Netizens reacting to the news on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) claimed that it was usual for Donald Trump to spend his time golfing instead of actively working to make his campaign a success. The following tweets demonstrate the prevalent take.

"Soo…. nothing has changed since he was president," wrote a person.

"Why bother campaigning when you already have a road map to rig the election in battleground states and nationwide," stated another.

"During his tenure as #45 when he wasn’t playing golf, he was thinking of ways on how to sabotage our Country. Fast forward to now…nothing has changed, he’s just getting worse," echoed a third.

"Trump can do less damage on the golf course than the White House," quipped a fourth.

"Boomers quiet quit too," jibed another.
