WASHINGTON, DC: Riley Gaines sparked controversy with a blistering post on X on Saturday, August 16, comparing those who wish for President Trump's failure to domestic terrorists.

The post quickly gained traction, reaching millions within just one day. The backlash came just a day before another polarizing moment, when Gaines called for Donald Trump to receive a Nobel Peace Prize.

Riley Gaines, the former collegiate swimmer turned MAGA favorite, stirred controversy with a bold post on social media, equating those who hope for President Donald Trump’s failure to domestic terrorists.

“If you wish for President Trump to fail, you wish for America to fail. And if you wish for America to fail, you’re a domestic terrorist,” she wrote in a striking message that quickly caught attention.

Just last month, Gaines called for Trump to sue her own boss, media titan Rupert Murdoch,“into oblivion” after The Wall Street Journal published a piece claiming Trump had once sent Jeffrey Epstein a crude personal letter for his 50th birthday. Sharing Trump’s response via Truth Social, Gaines posted the message to X with the caption, “Sue them into oblivion.”

Despite defending Trump against media attacks, Gaines has also voiced frustration with his handling of the Epstein issue. When Trump dismissed continued scrutiny over Epstein as the work of “stupid Republicans,” noting that the Justice Department had already closed its investigation, Gaines fired back online.

“Was it stupid & foolish when he campaigned on releasing the files?” she asked on X. “Are Pam Bondi, Kash Patel, Dan Bongino, and Alina Habba all foolish & stupid for peddling this for the past 6 months?” she asked. “Why on earth is he doing this?”

Riley Gaines's fiery post sparks debate online

Riley Gaines’s fiery post on X, where she equated wishing for Donald Trump’s failure with being a "domestic terrorist," quickly went viral, garnering over 1.3 million views in just two days. The post also attracted more than 30,000 likes and 4,600 comments, sparking intense debate online.

Among the responses, many expressed disappointment, disagreement, or outright frustration. One disillusioned fan commented, “You’re becoming tiresome 🥴.”

Another critic pushed back strongly, writing, “I wish for President Trump to fail at providing weapons and money to Israel as they continue to commit war crimes and genocide. If that makes me a “domestic terrorist” to whoever decides such things, then so be it.”

Others offered more specific political critiques. “I wish for Trump to fail at funding and arming Israel as it continues to commit war crimes. If that makes me a domestic terrorist, so be it,” one user wrote.

Another commenter interpreted Gaines’s statement as a sweeping generalization, "Well, you pretty much summed up the entire Democrat party and every liberal voter out there, 🤔"

A former supporter of Gaines voiced their disapproval, saying, “Riley I was one of your biggest fans until you jumped on the "distrust Trump" bandwagon over the Epstein files. Why do you micromanage and think you know better than "our once in a lifetime" president? You lost me with your see-saw allegiance."

Some replies, however, leaned into sarcasm or exaggeration. One pro-Gaines commenter said, “I so agree! All US citizens who oppose billionaire class running our country should be arrested without due process, stripped of the citizenship, and renditioned."

Meanwhile, another fired back at Gaines’s logic, stating, “If you lie and say that Trump is succeeding, you lie to America. And if you lie to America, you're a domestic terrorist."

One user summed up the broader criticism: “Your logic is flawed! Trump failed, not America. He doesn’t represent two-thirds of this nation."
