Rob Lowe on having now-famous friends in high school and being a 'nerd'
The podcast host expressed admiration for Downey's performances, mentioning his appreciation for Downey's role in 'Oppenheimer' and acknowledging his talent across various projects.
Lowe also reflected on the passage of time, highlighting the shift from being kids watching grown-ups win awards to now being the grown-ups winning awards themselves, as exemplified by Downey's achievements.
Kimmel then cheekily brought out a behind-the-scenes clip from Lowe's podcast, where Lowe and Downey were seen singing and grooving while the former got ready to start the podcast.
The conversation then shifted to the famous group of individuals Lowe was studying with during his time in high school, particularly those who became famous, including his mention of the cast of 'The Outsiders'.
Lowe then listed notable celebs from his high school group, including Sean Penn, Chris Penn, Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez, and Holly Robinson Pete, apart from RDJ.
When asked about the best student in the group, Lowe humorously claimed, "It was me!", describing himself as a nerd, further mentioning, "I was such a nerd that I was always the pleasure to have in class."
Despite this, he reiterated that he did not receive a diploma from high school due to his involvement in 'The Outsiders' during his senior year.

Moving on with their conversation, Lowe shared a story about Robert Downey Jr's amazing Golden Globes acceptance speech, expressing his excitement for him.
The actor intended to text Downey, saying, "So glad you won, that is the most beautiful acceptance speech I have heard in a long time. Boy, do you deserve it."
However, he accidentally sent the message to Bradley Cooper, who did not win. Realizing the mistake, Lowe attempted to clarify by texting, "No, no, I meant that for Robert Downey Jr."
He acknowledges that this only made the situation worse, stating, "That's even worse. I'm making the guy feel worse. Yeah, that is worse. Terrible," showcasing the humorous and unintended consequences of a texting mix-up.
But Lowe's bucket of humourous stories did not end there as Lowe recounted another texting mishap, saying, "I'd input the wrong numbers under the wrong names. You can unsend those, you know. I didn't know there's a time limit, and also, it says somebody unsent, which makes somebody doubly suspicious. Yes, that's exactly right. All right, well, did you make it up?
On being asked "Did you send Robert a text?" Lowe clarifies, "No, did it again. I mistakenly sent another one to, who? To Bradley. Oh, Bradley, again, again".
Towards the end of the show, Kimmel discussed a game where he throws celebrity names at guests and tests if they have met those celebrities.
He expressed the idea that longevity in show business leads to knowing a vast number of people, highlighting the humor and camaraderie of the Hollywood industry.
Lowe agreed to play the game but with the condition that if he performs well, the game's name should be reconsidered.
During the game, Lowe shared anecdotes about meeting Stevie Wonder, O J Simpson, Dennis Rodman, Frank Sinatra, and Prince. Lowe recalled an incident regarding Prince in the 1980s in a club, and said, "Just remember being in the bathroom at the urinal and these fail lanks of bodyguards came in and said you have to leave right now and they escorted me out of the bathroom, so Prince could pee in private."
Lowe continued to enthrall the viewers with stories ranging from humorous encounters with Stevie Wonder to being threatened by Dennis Rodman.
