Rosie O'Donnell shares deep personal toll of escaping Trump's America to start over in Ireland

DUBLIN, IRELAND: Rosie O'Donnell has shared the personal toll of leaving the United States under her longtime nemesis, President Donald Trump, to start anew in Ireland.
The 63-year-old comedian has officially left the US, relocating to the lush green landscapes of Ireland in what she calls a necessary escape from life under Trump.
Rosie shared a bittersweet update from her new life abroad on Sunday, March 30, posting a snapshot of her son, Blake O’Donnell, 25, and his wife, Teresa Garofalow Westervelt, in Boston.
"My son Blake and his beautiful wife Teresa!!! i miss u so much ❤️🎈🙏🏾🇮🇪🥰💋😘," she wrote in the caption.

Rosie moved to Ireland with her 12-year-old daughter, Dakota "Clay" O’Donnell, whom she adopted during her two-year marriage to her late ex-wife, Michelle Rounds, which ended in 2015.
Rosie O'Donnell on her move to Ireland
Rosie O'Donnell had been dropping hints about her big Irish move for months, teasing it as far back as March 7. Now, she’s making it official as she's finally in the process of getting Irish citizenship.
"It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say," Rosie shared with her 3.1 million TikTok followers on March 11. "The people [in Ireland] are so loving and so kind, so welcoming. And I’m very grateful."
But even Rosie was surprised by her own decision to leave the US behind.
"I was never someone who thought I would move to another country," she admitted. "That’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child. And here we are. I’m so, so proud and so impressed with their resilience. It’s not easy to move to another country, and we really felt as a family this was the safest and best thing for us to do."

The 62-year-old says she left and dragged her 12-year-old daughter with her because not all Americans have equal rights now.

Still, the move comes with some serious sacrifices. "You know, I’m happy. Clay is happy. I miss my other kids. I miss my friends. I miss many things about life there at home, and I’m trying to find a home here in this beautiful country," she said.
And she’s not returning to the US anytime soon. "When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back," Rosie insisted.
Rosie O'Donnell forgives MAGA, sells her Manhattan penthouse
The former 'The View' host may have left the country, but Donald Trump is still very much on her mind.
Rosie, who has been publicly feuding with Trump since 2006, can’t stop posting about him—and now, she’s also turned her attention to his senior advisor, Elon Musk.
But on March 27, she took to her Substack to make a surprising announcement—she’s forgiving MAGA.
"I forgive them, and I know they didn’t ask for my forgiveness," Rosie declared. "And I hope that doesn’t sound condescending, but I forgive them for making the mistake of believing the Americanized propaganda where we sold a conman as a businessman."

Rosie didn’t just leave the US behind—she also offloaded her swanky Midtown Manhattan penthouse for way less than she originally hoped.
She had listed the 3,400-square-foot apartment for $8.3 million, but after two years on the market, she finally sold it for a major loss of $6.9 million. The property is now officially under contract, according to Caroline Bass of Corcoran, who handled the listing.
Rosie O'Donnell's complicated relationship with daughter Chelsea O'Donnell
Rosie O'Donnell's personal life has always been complicated, and this latest chapter is no different.
She shares sons Parker O’Donnell, 29, and Blake, 25, and daughters Chelsea O’Donnell, 27, and Vivienne O’Donnell, 22, with her first wife, Kelli Carpenter, with whom she was with for three years before their relationship ended in 2007.
Her 22-year-old daughter Vivienne is currently a senior at the University of Delaware. But her 27-year-old estranged daughter, Chelsea, is making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Chelsea, who recently filed paperwork to legally change her last name to "Nevens," is now facing serious legal trouble. She pleaded no contest to methamphetamine possession, bail jumping, and obstructing an officer, and is set to be sentenced on March 31 at the Oconto County Circuit Court in Wisconsin.
Rosie addressed the painful situation last October in a statement. "Sadly, this is not new for our family. Chelsea has struggled with drug addiction for a decade—we [are] all hopeful she will find her way out of this deadly disease," she wrote at the time.

Even with all this going on, Rosie isn’t giving up on her career. She’s set to appear in the upcoming third season of Michael Patrick King’s 'Sex and the City' sequel, 'And Just Like That', which premieres this summer on Max, as per the Daily Mail.
