Ryan Reynolds slammed for 'mocking' Justin Baldoni amid Blake Lively legal feud: 'He's an insecure bully'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ryan Reynolds drew backlash for allegedly mocking Justin Baldoni in a legal motion amid his legal battle with Blake Lively. 

In December 2024, Reynold’s wife Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni accusing him of harassment and fostering a toxic work environment on the set of 'It Ends With Us'. 

Baldoni, who has vehemently denied all the allegations, filed a $400 million countersuit against Lively, Reynolds, the couple's publicist Leslie Sloane, and Sloane's PR firm Vision PR, Inc, in January. He alleged that Reynolds and Lively hijacked his film and sought to destroy his career.

On Tuesday, March 18, the 'Deadpool' actor filed a motion to dismiss Baldoni's complaint against him.

Ryan Reynolds' legal team claimed, as per Entertainment Weekly, "The entirety of Mr Baldoni’s case appears to be based on Mr Reynolds allegedly privately calling Mr Baldoni a 'predator,' but here is the problem: that is not defamation unless they can show that Mr Reynolds did not believe that statement to be true."

The filing also questioned Baldoni's accusation that "Nicepool," a character in 'Deadpool & Wolverine', was created to mock him.

In January, the 'Jane the Virgin' actor, through his lawyer, sent a litigation hold letter to Marvel president Kevin Feige and Disney CEO Bob Iger, calling for Marvel and Disney to preserve "any and all documents relating to the development of the ‘Nicepool’ character."

Lawyers representing the Canadian-American actor stated that Baldoni’s "thin-skinned outrage over a movie character does not even pretend to be tied to any legal claims." They further argued that "hurt feelings do not give rise to legal claims."

Ryan Reynolds faced flak for "mocking" Justin Baldoni over the claims he made regarding the "Nicepool" character, with many believing Baldoni was right to think the character was based on him.

One wrote, "The fact that Ryan Reynolds, created NicePool, just so he and Blake could bully Justin Baldoni, proves that they're the ones, that started a smear campaign, to ruin Justin's life and career. Because us mommy sleuths, didn't start posting about Blake and Ryan until much later." 

Another said, "Did Ryan Reynolds use prosthetic makeup to make his Nicepool character's nose appear bigger, to further harass/mock/bully Justin Baldoni? I admit it is subtle, but it appears so."

"Ryan Reynolds is a manipulative, arrogant, and insecure bully who tried to ruin Justin Baldoni's career and reputation because his wifey wanted the rights to a sequel of It Ends With Us," a person remarked. 

One more wrote, "Ryan Reynolds thinking he can Ryan Reynolds his way out of this lawsuit is so Ryan Reynolds," and another said, "Ryan and Blake are awful human beings Not even an opinion anymore just a fact."

A Daily Mail reader commented, "With all this saga going on I actually found out that Mr Good Guy Ryan is not such a nice guy as he tries so hard to portrait."

"Ryan is everything he calls Justin. Very jealous person and predatory," one more said.

He's just trying to avoid the checkbox of 'negligence' since he fits the defamation criteria and negligence is the only that still could be up for interpretation.
