Sandra Bullock reveals daughter Laila’s surprising passion, hints at future career in F1

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Sandra Bullock is supportive of her teenage children’s interests, including her daughter Laila’s aspirations to pursue F1. During a recent interview on Thursday, September 10, the 'Speed' actress opened up about her children’s hobbies and her relationship with them.

Bullock usually keeps details about her children private and tries to keep them away from the spotlight and social media. However, this time, the proud mom seemed more than happy to support her children as they explored their interests and passions.

In an appearance on 'Live with Kelly and Mark', the 'Speed' actress discussed her son Louis Bardo, 16, and daughter Laila, 13. When host Mark Consuelos asked what Bullock’s kids were “up to right now,” she replied, “School.”

“It’s a lot. School is a lot for kids,” Bullock added. “I’m so glad I’m not in school. I would not survive.”

“My son is a basketball player, so it’s all things basketball right now,” Bullock said. “So, that’s where his focus is. And Lai, she’s a basketball player, too, but she’s a race car driver.”

“Excuse me? What do you mean? She’s 13, right?” host Kelly Ripa said.

Bullock shared that since Laila was “tiny,” she would “take the training wheels off” her bike at 4 years old.

“And then I got her an E-bike in the backyard,” Bullock explained. “And then I found a way to put her in a race car on a private track that might have been a Porsche like 911 race car. She’s 13, mind you, but at this point she’s 12.”

“She is so good that they came to me and they said if you want to train her she could be like a Formula 1 racer,” she continued. “And I go, ‘So how does that look for the mom, like what does that do for me?’"

“No, wait. This is more like... what is that called?” Ripa said.

“Like a race mom,” Consuelos, 55, added.

“What snacks do you bring for the drivers?” Bullock said with a laugh, jokingly questioning if the drivers would like some orange slices packed as snacks.

“Straight to a car, not a go-kart?” Consuelos asked.

“Straight to a car,” Bullock replied. “It’s just in her DNA. So I was like, ‘Okay, you had the taste. Now let’s pull you back a little bit.’ ”

Bullock said she would welcome racing if her daughter decided to pursue the sport as an adult, but for now, she is encouraging her to try out different hobbies.

Bullock’s family grew in 2015 when she adopted her daughter Laila at 2 and a half years old. She had previously adopted her son Louis in 2010 when he was just 3 and a half months old.

In December 2015, Bullock told PEOPLE that she always felt Laila was meant to be part of her family. “When I look at Laila, there’s no doubt in my mind that she was supposed to be here,” she said.

Louis also had a big role in the adoption, with Bullock revealing that he “spearheaded the whole journey.”

Bullock has continued to keep her children largely out of the public eye while supporting their individual interests. While Louis has focused on basketball, Laila has explored both basketball and racing, giving her mother plenty to cheer about as she grows up.
