CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders was nearly unrecognizable during a recent appearance on Fox News. Her transformation has been striking, to say the least—especially to those who remember her tenure as the White House press secretary under former president Donald Trump.

The former press secretary has undergone somewhat of a metamorphosis since her tenure in the White House. Flaunting lighter hair and a slimmed-down look, Sanders looked markedly different from the image of her standing behind the White House podium during the Trump administration.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders' new look and commentary on Harris-Walz campaign

Sanders, who has become a regular guest on Fox News, showed off her new look while discussing the third night of the Democratic National Convention.

Her appearance on Wednesday resembled her look during the Republican National Convention a month earlier—marking an unmistakable departure from the darker, shorter hair she sported while serving as Trump’s press secretary.

During her segment on Fox News, host Jesse Watters brought up the viral camouflage hat merchandise promoted by the Harris-Walz campaign. When asked whether people in Arkansas were embracing the new trend, Sanders responded: "Most definitely not."

"People in Arkansas are not voting for the Democrat ticket," she said, adding, "They are voting for Donald Trump and he will win Arkansas overwhelmingly."

Sarah Huckabee Sanders' role as White House press secretary

Sarah Huckabee Sanders served as the White House press secretary from 2017 to 2019, succeeding Sean Spicer in the role. During her time in the Trump administration, Sanders was known for her tough demeanor and frequent clashes with reporters.

She was one of five press secretaries who worked under Trump, the others being Kellyanne Conway, Kayleigh McEnany, and Stephanie Grisham.

Sanders' tenure as press secretary marked a major departure from traditional press relations. She gained notoriety for her confrontational style and unwavering defense of President Trump, even in the face of criticism.

While Trump's base loved her for her loyalty and tenacity, Sanders faced criticism from the other side of the aisle while defending some of the administration's more controversial policies.

These included issues related to the Russia investigation, Trump's immigration policies, including the so-called Muslim ban, as well as some of his interactions with foreign leaders.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders' post-White House career and health struggles

In June 2019, Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced her resignation from her role as press secretary, saying she wanted to spend more time with her family and return to her home state of Arkansas.

After leaving the White House, she remained active in Republican politics and eventually launched a successful campaign to become the governor of Arkansas, taking office in early 2023. However, her journey to the governorship was not without its challenges.

Just before the 2022 election, Sanders underwent surgery for thyroid cancer—something that could have easily derailed her ambitions. In a statement via her campaign, she revealed that doctors had removed her thyroid and surrounding lymph nodes.

“I want to thank the Arkansas doctors and nurses for their world-class care, as well as my family and friends for their love, prayers, and support," she later said.
