NEW YORK CITY, NEW CITY: Comedian and talk show host Bill Maher claimed that a significant number of Black Americans are less liberal than commonly perceived, during the Sunday, June 16 episode of his podcast, 'Club Random.'

Maher was seconded in his take by his guest, late-night Comedy Central show host Larry Wilmore. The pair discussed race and the shift of political allegiances in the United States over time reported Fox News.

Discussion on Black voters in US

"There’s a large Black silent majority in my view. They’re not as liberal as the White (Democrats)," Maher told Wilmore on the podcast. He mentioned that he personally knew Black men who weren't happy with the far left, noting, "They're not with AOC."

Wilmore replied that Maher's view was "1,000% true," and was especially evident among multi-generational Black families or older Black Americans. Black voters aligned themselves more with the Democratic Party during the Civil Rights movement, which he felt was a "human" movement that was "hijacked" by the left.

During the conversation, Maher brought up incumbent Joe Biden's commencement speech at Morehouse College in May, where he reportedly asked graduates, "What is democracy if you have to be 10 times better than anyone else to get a fair shot?"

"It’s condescending," stated Wilmore. "I live in the world of aspiration, not desperation because I know those things exist. I’ve talked about them, I make jokes about them, but I always keep it in perspective that if you want to build something, you don’t want to just put band-aids on things in your life, you also want to build things in your life too, and you build things by being inspired."

"It's a healthier attitude for any individual," noted the host.

Internet reacts to Bill Maher's comments

"Wealthy white talking head runs his mouth. Tells black people what they're thinking," a user wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) responding to Maher's statements.

"Being that he is a Black man I guess he would know," mocked another.

"@billmaher knows a Black person?" sarcastically inquired a third.

Another added, "Says the white guy."

"Bill Maher is cool, but he sometimes talks out of his a*s," jibed a fourth user.

"He’s like a broken clock," commented a fifth.
