The security event unfolded at the exact moment President Donald J Trump was scheduled to address the Small Business Summit within the White House. Despite the violence occurring just blocks away, the president’s scheduled event continued without interruption.
Press evacuated during sudden security breach
At approximately 3.41 pm ET, the tension of the situation reached the White House grounds as journalists stationed on the North Lawn were abruptly evacuated.
Secret Service officers, reportedly carrying long guns, rushed onto the lawn and urged members of the media to run inside the White House briefing room for safety.

The sudden maneuver created a moment of high tension for the press corps, as the North Lawn, a frequent site for live broadcasts, became a focused security zone.
Remarkably, the disruption was brief. Roughly seven minutes after the initial order to flee, journalists were informed that the immediate threat had been managed and were permitted to return to their stations outside.

Just five minutes after the evacuation began, President Trump walked into the East Room to commence his event for the small business summit.
The transition from the high-alert tactical response outside to the formal setting of the East Room was jarring; attendees inside appeared completely unaware of the security breach and the gunfire occurring nearby.
Trump proceeded to tout his economic accomplishments and private sector job growth, seemingly isolated from the active law enforcement scene near the National Mall.
