AUSTIN, TEXAS: Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz slammed the Colorado Supreme Court's ruling disqualifying Donald Trump from the state's primary ballot as "utterly lawless".

In a video clip from a Fox News interview posted on his X account, the Texas Senator responded to the "left's attempts" to bar the ex-president from GOP primary ballots.

His remarks were made amid the former president challenging rulings from Colorado SC and Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows in the SCOTUS and a state Superior Court, respectively.

Cruz argued the US Supreme Court would reverse the Colorado SC decision "quite easily." "I think that decision is utterly lawless," he stated.

The Senator added that a similar decision from Maine is "even more laughable."

Despite leading the opinion polls in the Republican primary, Maine and Colorado rulings cited Trump's alleged involvement in the January 6 Capitol attack violated Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which prevents any former president who is involved in an insurrection from holding office.

Ted Cruz thinks SCOTUS will look into Colorado SC's decision

Ted Cruz argued that the nation's apex court would "inevitably" consider the Colorado Supreme Court's ballot ban against Trump.

Claiming the state was trying to take leading White House hopeful off the primary ballot, he added, "Because that really goes to the heart of can you have judges preventing the voters from voting for one of the major two parties nominees assuming Donald Trump is the nominee."

The former president's appeal to the SCOTUS questioning the Colorado SC decision also argued that the right to rule on presidential eligibility lies solely with Congress and not state courts.

The Senator also blasted the Department of Justice, elected Democrats, and the corporate media, saying "they're corrupted."

"They are motivated just by this overwhelming hatred of Donald Trump," he added.

Cruz, who has been a strong critic of America's left, was among the Republicans who made unsubstantiated claims of the 2020 election being rigged, according to The Washinton Post.

Internet slams Ted Cruz for criticizing the Colorado court

Netizens are questioning Cruz for saying the state's ruling against Trump was unlawful. Many pointed out that the Constitution has mentioned it in the 14th Amendment, proving his claims wrong.

One user questioned, "So you’re saying the constitution is lawless?"

Another user remarked, "My only question is have you read the 14th amendment section 3? If not, you should, because even a layman like me,can read it clearly .He engaged in an insurrection and therefore forfeited his requirements to become an officer of the government. All 50 states should do the same."

"They are more likely to rule 9-0 in favor of Colorado. There is this thing called the Constitution, and it may surprise you to know that there are more than 2 Amendments. 14.3 is a clear as day," read a third reaction.

A fourth user added, "No it’s not! But if SCOTUS votes against Colorado then we will know that they do not defend the Constitution!"

"So he just called the 14th amendment lawless," one user said. Another added, "Cherry picking the Constitution."

Another user stated, "It is not utterly lawless. it is the 14th amendment of the constitution."

"Poor Ted, on the wrong side of the law again. Pathetic," noted one user.
