Shakira says she's very sad for canceling show after hospitalization due to 'abdominal issues'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shakira was hospitalized on Saturday, February 15, due to an abdominal issue, prompting her to cancel a highly anticipated concert in Lima, Peru.

The singer, who is currently on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour, shared the heartbreaking news with her fans through an Instagram Stories post on Sunday, February 16.

Shakira hopes to perform at her second Lima show on February 17 

Sharing her health update, Shakira wrote, "I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized."

The 'Whenever Wherever' singer further explained that under doctors’ recommendations, she would not be able to perform at the National Stadium of Peru that evening which would have been the first of two back-to-back shows in the capital city.

“I am very sad to not be able to take the stage today. I have been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru,” she added.

The Grammy-winning artist assured fans that her team and promoters were working diligently to reschedule the canceled concert.

Despite her condition, Shakira remained hopeful, stating she wished to be well enough to perform at her second Lima show scheduled for February 17.

Shakira's milestone tour and recent Grammy triumph

Shakira’s health scare comes just days after she launched her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour in Rio de Janeiro on February 11.

The tour, named after her latest album, marks her return to the global stage after a seven-year hiatus.

Adding to her triumphs, Shakira recently won the Best Latin Pop Album award at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2 for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.

During her acceptance speech at the Grammy Awards, Shakira delivered a touching message dedicated to immigrants and hardworking women worldwide.

“I want to dedicate this award to all my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country,” she said, her voice filled with emotion, according to People.

“You are loved. You are worth it, and I will always fight with you. And to all of those women who work really hard every day to provide for their families, you are the true 'sheroes.' So this is for you, too,” she expressed.

Shakira also paid tribute to her two sons, Milan, 12, and Sasha, 10, whom she shares with her ex-partner Gerard Pique.
