WASHINGTON, DC: The Chair of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, James Comer (R-Ky), expressed his opinion that criminal referrals will be the appropriate course of action and that the impeachment vote against President Joe Biden may not be the "best path."

Comer shared with Newsmax hosts on Thursday, “I believe that the best path to accountability is criminal referrals.”

What did James Comer reveal during his appearance on Newsmax on Thursday?

On Wednesday, March 20, the Oversight Committee convened a hearing concerning the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, according to a report by The Hill.

During the proceedings, Democratic members of the committee urged their Republican counterparts to identify the specific criminal activities that prompted their investigation.

As skepticism about the future of the inquiry into the incumbent president's business dealings grows, the pressure on Republicans to justify their ongoing investigation has intensified.

In the interview, Comer maintained that since the Democratic-controlled Senate will probably bring up Biden's impeachment "like they're gonna do with the Merrick Garland impeachment," "real accountability" for Biden now appears to be "providing real criminal referrals to the Department of Justice."

“I would vote to impeach Joe Biden right now. The impeachment inquiry was meant to give us more tools to be able to gather more information to be able to win in court,” the Kentucky GOP representative explained.

Democrats jumped at the chance to push Comer and other GOP members to identify the specific misdemeanor or felony that is the focus of their inquiry during the hearing.

Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) questioned why the impeachment was being pursued if the GOP had "no charges."

She claimed that despite Comer's repeated references to misconduct by the "Biden family," she has "yet to hear" from Republicans that accuse Biden of anything in particular.

“I am not hearing the specific allegation by this committee. What is it? It is not here. And that is the problem. The story is, when this committee knew they were working with falsified evidence? That is the story,” Ocasio-Cortez asked during the hearing.

"The Bidens" had committed crimes by selling "access to" the president, Comer claimed even after the hearing.

In an online statement, Comer asserted that he is going to request President Biden to appear before the committee "in the coming days" to "explain why his family received tens of millions of dollars from foreign companies with his assistance."

Internet slams James Comer for disclosing that he will not impeach Joe Biden

People on X mocked the Kentucky Republican for suggesting that opting for criminal referrals instead would be a much better-suited option for the House Republicans going forward.

One X user remarked: "Shameful. They can not dig themselves out of the rabbit hole."

Another user quipped: "James Comer's zeal for accountability with Biden is as genuine as a knockoff Rolex sold on a street corner. It's like watching a fox lecture on henhouse security while cozying up with the wolves."

Another user asked: "I thought the only way to have a criminal trial is if they first impeached and convicted Joe?"

One user wrote: "Once again, criminal referrals based on what SPECIFIC crimes??"

Another X user said: "So, they finally admit: they got nothing."

Finally, this user tweeted: "If they had a crime, they’d be impeaching."
