Shannen Doherty’s pal blames ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko for toughening her final months during illness
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shannen Doherty's friend Tara Furiani has criticized the late actress’s ex-husband, Kurt Iswarienko, for allegedly worsening her final months through a contentious spousal support battle.
Following Doherty's death from cancer at age 53, Furiani took to LinkedIn to express her frustration with Iswarienko, claiming he exacerbated Doherty's suffering during her illness.
Shannen Doherty's friend criticizes Kurt Iswarienko for complicating final months
In a heartfelt Linkedin post shared on July 14, Furiani, who runs Not the HR Lady, reflected on Doherty's passing and criticized Iswarienko for his handling of their divorce. "I'm really sad and upset about my friend Shannen’s death … Because of the divorce she was going through at the time," Furiani wrote.
Doherty "made peace" with the fact that her "death was inevitable" due to her condition, "but, her pain and suffering in the months preceding didn’t have to be so profound if her husband was just a decent human being. Could have just displayed a little humanity to his dying wife."
Furiani accused Iswarienko of delaying court proceedings related to spousal support, which Doherty had sought after their separation. She suggested that this delay contributed to Doherty's distress, asserting that the actress "lost everything" during her illness, including her SAG insurance.
Furiani lamented that Iswarienko’s actions, including allegedly dragging his feet on income discovery, led to undue pain for Doherty.
"She believed this is what he was doing and she said as much, publicly, just a month ago," she added.
Furiani's post also highlighted Doherty's public allegations against Iswarienko, including claims that he deliberately delayed payments to avoid financial responsibility before her death. Iswarienko's lawyer, Katherine Heersema, has denied these allegations, stating that Iswarienko had offered a payment plan in October 2023, which Doherty rejected.
"Kurt is not 'simply waiting for Shannen to die.' He wants the best for Shannen and he wants both of them to be able to put this case behind them and move forward," the attorney stated.
Heersema insisted that Iswarienko was not waiting for Doherty to pass away but wanted to resolve the matter amicably.
The dispute centered on Doherty's request for approximately $15,000 per month in spousal support, given her financial difficulties and inability to work since 2022. Doherty had pointed out Iswarienko's affluent lifestyle as evidence of his financial capability to meet her support demands.
Shannen Doherty finalized divorce from Kurt Iswarienko in hurry
In her final days, Shannen Doherty expedited her divorce settlement with ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko after realizing her time was running out. Sources revealed to TMZ that Doherty, who passed away on July 13 at age 53, was determined to finalize her divorce before she died.
Doherty and Iswarienko completed their divorce just one day before her death, with renowned divorce attorney Laura Wasser—who has represented high-profile clients like Dr Dre and Kim Kardashian—working around the clock to secure the agreement.
The finalized settlement granted Doherty full ownership of her $6 million Malibu mansion, including all its furnishings, art, and personal property. She also retained several bank and retirement accounts, her SAG pension plan, and full rights to her production company. Additionally, Doherty kept all earnings and accumulations from her work on 'Beverly Hills, 90210' and 'Charmed'.
