PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Former President Donald Trump fully endorsed Speaker Mike Johnson amid a looming threat to remove him from the House leadership position.

Johnson visited the GOP presumptive nominee at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday, April 12, to ensure his political survival.

Addressing reporters together with the embattled House Speaker, Trump declared, "I stand with the speaker; we've had a very good relationship," according to USA Today.

House Republicans who control the lower chamber with a razor-thin majority have been disappointed with his leadership. In March, Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Trump ally, filed a motion to oust him from the speakership.

Despite the rift between Greene and Johnson, Trump threw his support behind the latter, indicating the Georgia Republican who threatened to call for a vote to oust the speaker would understand, according to the New York Post.

"I think he's doing a very good job," the former president lauded the Republican Speaker. "He's doing about as good as you're going to do. And I'm sure that Marjorie understands that, and she's a very good friend of mine, and I know she has a lot of respect for the speaker."

Johnson's Mar-a-Lago pilgrimage comes at a time of Greene's unending criticisms against him for suggesting the possibility of bringing the pending Senate-approved Ukraine aid bill for a House vote. The Georgia lawmaker vehemently opposes additional military assistance to Ukraine.

The speaker and Greene failed to find a common ground after a failed meeting to ease tensions. The GOP congresswoman further lashed out at Johnson on Friday, claiming he is "full of s**t" following the passage of the bill reauthorizing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

"We're getting along very well with the speaker and I get along very well with Marjorie," Trump said to reporters at his luxury residence. "We have a speaker who was voted in and it was a complicated process and I think very — it's not an easy situation for any speaker."

This is Johnson's first visit to Trump after he became the Republican presumptive nominee.

Internet ridicules Mike Johnson

Trump's endorsement of Johnson was not well received by social media users, who mocked the speaker for kissing the ex-president's ring.

One user said, "Keep bowing down to donnie @SpeakerJohnson." Meanwhile, another asked, "Did Trump keep his spine or give it back to him?"

"He got a pat on the head and belly rub after .." a third user quipped. A fourth response read, "I can’t imagine being that spineless of a man. How do you face your family?"

Someone else wrote, "Isn’t it sad the the Speaker (probably the 2nd most important position in the government) needs an ex-President to tell him he’s doing a good job. Can you imagine Nancy Pelosi begging Obama to put in a few good words about her, after he was out of office?"

An individual shared a meme that read, "IT'S A CLOWN," while another user said, imitating Trump, "He kissed my ring just a day ago. Give it some time before you ask me to denigrate him."
