NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'The View' host Sunny Hostin suggested on Monday, June 9, that it's "not illegal to be undocumented" because it's considered a civil offense.

During the episode, the co-hosts of the talk show slammed President Donald Trump for deploying National Guard troops to Los Angeles over the weekend amid the intensifying protests, according to Fox News.

During Monday's episode, Sara Haines talked about the Donald Trump administration's deportation efforts and said, "60 percent of the American public, two-thirds of independents, 90 percent of Republicans, and just a little under half of Democrats think the crime is in being undocumented."

"What I'm saying is, a massive amount of this country actually agrees with, not how he's doing it, but what he's doing," she added.

Hostin explained, "There's misinformation out there. Let's axe that right now, because it is not illegal to be undocumented. It is not a crime to be undocumented. People are not illegal. We need to put that information out there. It is a civil infraction."

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said it wasn't a broad misunderstanding as she referred back to Haines' argument, per the outlet.

The former White House aide said, "I think that 60% of Americans believe it’s a civil offense and that if you come here, and you’re undocumented, that you should be deported."

Haines further informed her co-hosts that there was more support for deportations than they realized.

Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom has also criticized Trump for mobilizing the National Guard to quell immigration-related protests in LA.

Newsom wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "I have formally requested the Trump Administration rescind their unlawful deployment of troops in Los Angeles county and return them to my command."

He added, "We didn’t have a problem until Trump got involved. This is a serious breach of state sovereignty — inflaming tensions while pulling resources from where they’re actually needed."
