Tapper ‘steamrolled’ as Stefanik erupts on CNN over Trump Iran claim, ‘This is typical CNN!’
ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Rep Elise Stefanik, on Sunday, April 19, clashed fiercely with CNN's Jake Tapper during a tense interview, accusing the network of distorting President Donald Trump’s remarks on Iran into a false genocide narrative.
The explosive exchange quickly got viral, with Stefanik repeatedly shutting down Tapper’s accusations and declaring, “This is typical CNN!”

Explosive CNN clash over 'genocide' claim
The fireworks began when Tapper asked Stefanik about Trump’s earlier warning toward Iran, claiming the president had threatened to wipe out an entire civilization.
“What did you think when President Trump threatened to obliterate the entire Iranian civilization?” Tapper asked.
Stefanik immediately rejected the premise. “He was focusing on the Iranian regime. And what did it do? It brought the Iranians to the table. It led to the ceasefire,” she said.
Tapper then insisted Trump had said “the entire civilization will die,” pressing whether that language was acceptable. Stefanik again refused to concede.
“He was focused on the Iranian regime. Jake, isn’t it true that it brought the Iranians to the table?”
When Tapper replied, “I don’t know,” Stefanik used the moment to hammer home her argument that Trump’s tough rhetoric had produced results.
“It did because they had a ceasefire agreement going on for days. President Trump is correct to call out the Iranian regime, which has financed violent groups.”
As Tapper continued reading Trump’s words back to her, the exchange became even sharper.
Tapper said, “You’re changing his words.” Stefanik fired back, saying, “You’re adding genocide.”
Tapper then asked, “What is wiping out an entire civilization?” That prompted Stefanik’s remark, “This is typical CNN! If you want to compare the president of the United States to the university presidents who failed to condemn calls for the genocide of Jews, that’s on you, Jake.”

Stefanik calls out legacy media
She added that the public had already seen “morally equivocating” leadership in those earlier controversies and accused CNN of manufacturing a scandal around Trump’s remarks.
Stefanik ended the debate by insisting Trump’s comments were directed at Tehran’s rulers, not civilians.
“President Trump was not calling for genocide. Shame on CNN for saying that.”
After the interview, Stefanik took victory laps on social media, mocking the reaction inside CNN.

“We are more than 10 years in and President Trump’s tweets are still giving CNN anchors a cardiac arrest!” she wrote.
In a separate post, she added, “When BOTH the Left and the Right are saying Jake Tapper got demolished on TV during our Sunday am segment, it’s a win!”
The confrontation centered on Trump’s 'end of civilization' warning, which critics said went too far, while allies continue to argue that it was clearly aimed at the regime.
